Yeah that would work but probably stiffer then loosly mounting the muffler which is my plan on my 2500 mile apex with a bender.

Would the new stainless steel ones from yamaha that they now offer resolve this problem ?

The stainless pipes offered by Yamaha now are the y pipes, not the muffler. So it would have no effect on this problem.

Both my RX1 and Attak did this at about 8,000 miles. re-welded them a couple times now. I am going to add a plate to the y section on the bottom and also I saw a previous post about making a support bar that goes across the bottom of the pipe at the y section. U-shaped and bolted to the tunnel to support this section.
