Rxhauler, ive had the cpr turbo now for over 7000kms and still have that popping at wide open, it didnt bother me to much as it was a trail sled and didnt need wide open for many races however i tried both 132.5 ,135, 130 and still had popping at wot however at 12 lbs boost with 114 fuel it was alot less noticable, i have seen other turbo systems do same thing on rx1 at the track, didnt have chance to figure it out last year but this year its my play sled so i hope to have some time to figure it out, if you figure it out first id love to know what you found, This year im going with 10:1 pistons and im guessing the popping will disapear, it sounds like a detonation popping to me, however its never done any damage that i know of, she still pulled strong when i put it away, didnt have time to frequent the rx1 sight in the summer but its nice to be back,on another topic, has anybody had any success with running the coolant through the turbo? Havnt had a chance to call Jeff yet for this years updates, Thanx

Lakercr: thanks! (whew, thats good!)
What effect would high ocrtane race fuel have on a sensor, or the readings it produces?

Vcrash: I had the same thing last year- try bigger mains- it'll go away and you'll rip your arms off.

Haller,
Check the size of the jet. They just recently went to the 90. If it is the larger jet your turbo will leak oil and eventually your seal will go out.
Is there any chance that you are hitting the rev limiter with your Simons kit? I know it is a long shot, but if you are anywhere near 11.000 rpm that just migh tbe it.

Received the Bender Kit about 2 weeks ago .Its up and running now ,I will ck that jet though .Funny thing is , the bender kit was too lean & the cpr kit was too rich . I found that Blocking off the pitot jet completely dialed the bender kit in almost perfectly .And yes the air/ fuel guage is priceless and completely a must have on any Turbo . The crackling from a rich condition sounds the same to me as the crackling from a lean condition. Its amazing how sensitive these engines are to jetting w/ Turbo.

Blocking off the pitot tube means you're too lean on the mains. As you know, the smaller the jet in the pitot, the richer you are making the carburation.
I thought of putting a 300-400 size jet in the pitot, then adjusting the mains up in size until it runs semi-decent. Then you have some range to tune the pitot jet up or down depending on conditions. If you have it blocked off how would you be able to go smaller (leaner) when conditions warrant it?

Blocking the pitot jet completely is just a temporary fix until I have time to up the main jet size , I am sure I'll need to richen up some W/ the needles also.

RXHALLER: I expect arrival of my Stage 2 kit in the next week. What size pitot jets came with the turbo?
What type are they? Large Hex type ? Thanks

RXHALLER- let us know what mains you end up with. The stage 2 Titanium we just recieved still comes with a 400 and a 700 pitot jet, and no mention of the oil jet. I guess you have to be on this forum to "get it right"

Vrash, ...the simons turbo I got had the coolant ports in the side , I changed it a little though , I ran larger 5/16 steel lines w/ double flare type ends . The line on the left side I ran in to a 1/2 inch aluminum tube , around the front and under the intercooler all the way around to the other side & back into the block . This seems to dissipate the heat from the turbo pretty well , also added hood vents , and two one inch holes beneath the windshield ............I doubt if that was detonation popping you were hearing or else you would have at the very least burnt an electrode on the spark plugs by now .
