Sailing down the trail in Island park and some guy decides to stop right in the middle of the trail to put down his ice scratchers, might I add on a corner. My dad missed him but I didn't miss my dad. So I guess I wrecked 2 mtn lites this weekend. Mine has bent a-arms, My dads right side running board in opened up like a can opener went through it. Actually it was my left spindal. other than that it was a great ride. We rode 70 miles Saturday.

How are you not in jail? I think I'd have beat that guy senseless.

Yup people like that need a slap upside the head. How fast were you going though and where were your communicators your hit could have been prevented had you used them.

About $500.00 to mine and not sure on my dads. Oh I was pretty hot. My dad kept his cool though and kept me from beating the @#$& out of the guy. We were just coming into last chance so we were only running about 40 mph.

It can be argued that your speed is what caused the accident. You should never ride faster then the area in your field of vision permits you to stop in. What if a moose was crossing the trail, or a tree was down, or the groomer was coming around the corner??? You could have prevented this from happening.

Ditto, totally agree with you on this one, but that guy shouldn't have been stopping on that corner, unless he is broken down. Whenever I stop to check something or whatever, I try to do it on a straightaway and try to get off the trail as much as possible.

Agreed.

If the parents of the guy stopped in the trail had used birth control We wouldn't be have this thread and 80 ponies sled wouldn't be damaged. Accidents happen. But people who stop and park in the middle of a trail are stupid and lack common sense.

Accidents happen because people are driving over their head, and faster then what the road/trail conditions allow. You never know what might be in the trail ahead of you, and if you can't stop in time, its YOUR fault. What if the seld was broken down, what if they were stopping to let a pack of deer cross ahead of them? There is no excuse for plowing into a stationary object on the trail, plain and simple.

That statement could be applied to people that ride faster then the area in their field of vision permits you to stop in. (Sorry 80 ponies, not intend directly at you) Both parties are to blame here, it sucks that someone’s sled got damaged. Hey sh!t happens, what can you do about it. There's nothing that can be done about the guy that stop in the corner. People learn from their mistakes and I'm sure if this was a close call for him, he won't do it again. I'm also sure if it was that close that he was probably cursing 80 ponies and his dad.

I completely agree that $hit happens. But You don't stop in the middle of a trail or on a curve. You just don't do it. I personally don't ride all that fast anymore and I always slow down "alot" when I see corners coming up. But, Everytime I'm on the trail and I see where people stop to have a smoke & Drink of gatoraide I can't believe what I'm seeing. I know it must seem trivial to some but I always figure someone is coming around that corner and It doesn't matter how fast they're going. I'm not going to be the reason some guy biffs it because I have to put My Ice Scratchers down parked in a corner.

I don't know maybe its just Me. I always think about stuff like this when I'm on the trail. When I'm going cross country and I'm coming up on a designated trail I always stop and pay extra attention to see if there is any traffic coming. Sorry about My above post I should have toned it down and worded it differently.

Sorry about your sled 80. But it sounds like you should be riding again pretty soon? Good Luck.

I'm not saying I was not at fault. I was saying that this guywas an idiot for stopping where he did. I have been riding sleds since I was 6 years old and this is the first accident that I have had. I'm pretty sure I wasnt riding above my ability.

You hit something stationary on a trail! You were riding above your abilty to stop suddenly in an emergency and not hit the emergency. Need I say more.
