Time to rehash the mirrors and windshields.

I ordered the RTX LE ditch banger model as per my signature. I know, a ditch banger sled owner shouldn't be worried about creature comforts, but I like to have my cake and eat it too.

So my questions concern mirrors and windshield. I really like the look of the OE blue windshield, but I assume it is as functionally deficient as it looks? I also really want to have mirror(s) as I feel all sleds should so they can be aware of what is behind them be it a member of their own group or another group looking to overtake. I also prefer to have the mirrors mounted in a fixed location. Having the mirror in the same location when you look to it is quite handy.

So am I going to hate the OE windshield? At 6'1" where will I dislike it? If it's just the hands I could do hand guards, but if it's going to freeze my chest I'd better bite the bullet. It looks like quite a few have kept the OE shields so they must not be to bad?

If it turns out that I am changing windshields this is where the Cat shields and mirrors come into play. Cat has a decent set of mirrors that bolts to the XF 7000 Crosstour windshield and meets my criteria for fixed location.

If I keep the OE shield or any other Yami shield for that matter they are not built for mirros from what I can see. Then I would consider hand guard mounted mirrors.

When i bought my viper ltx dx i came from an 07 rev with the tiny windshield 8 inch risers and hand guards .Like you im 6' and it was not so much my chest but my upper arms and neck would freeze. The oe mid shield on mine is perfect but i also do major lake riding im not sure on your other questions

Well this was one of the coldest winters we had and honestly the stock windshield wasn't bad for cold. I did not like the snow dust it blew right up my helmet though. I was only able to get a tall windshield to try and I hated it. At speed it literally pulled you forward and created a drone noise also. Finally got a real Yamaha mid and can't wait to try it.

I have had good success with the Nitro hand guard mirror combo on my past Vector and Apex models. (Expensive though)
I am wondering if this will work on the Viper or what the best mirror option will be

I am thinking the DX windshield should be good.
I have ridden a lot with the low windshields colder yes but I like the view a little better not looking through lexan or whatever they are made of.
My concern is the mirrors. I wonder if the Ski Doo bar mounted mirrors would work than I would have Cat chassis, yamaha drive train and Doo mirrors. I am starting to think internationally - Japan, USA and Canada

TD - The stock windshield isn't bad like Cannondale mentioned. This past season was a very cold year for riding.....but never needed my leather bibs. My hands never got cold and I used a neck sock to keep the cold from going in my helmet and getting my neck.

Shagman's sled has the larger windshield on and I did enjoy it when we swapped sleds. I'm into off-trail and boondocking so I would rather have the stock one.

I ALWAYS put lower windshields on all my past sleds... But the Viper is the exception, have a mid sport windshield and love the look and I'm sure it will be warmer than the stock windshield. I hated the looks of the stock shield too...

I see a lot of sleds with the cat windshield cut down and it looks awesome! Believe Studroes has is
