What about using an old cell phone plug in DC adaptor for charging you cell phone and solding on the end plug for the heated shield. It coils up nice and most everyone has an old one lying around.

kimpex and other suppliers make it already with the proper plug for the shield , you will have to bump the fuse to a 10amp.

Good point about the fuse. I think the fuse in a cell charger is pretty small.... only 3 amps or so. May not be enough for the shield.

DC electrical outlet for shield
Go to SMARTRECPARTS.com and type in part number 621200 and they are $6.26. It is well worth the money. There's no picture but its a pretty good adapter for the price.

go to www.westmarine.com and search on part # SC107LED. Great quality and waterproof too.

The one from smartrecparts is an actual plug that plugs into the receptacle on your apex and converts it to the heated shield outlet. This is what you are looking for. The west marine is the receptacle and a plug???

if you ride anything but smooth trails...I'd do what I've done...wire directly to the battery with an inline fuse close to the power tap

You can buy just the plug. i think it was 6.99. Cut the end off your cord to your helmet and wire up the new plug. 2500 miles not one issue. There are lots of options.
