Rough trails will cause an "automotive application" plug to vibrate loose from the socket. The Yamaha adapter plug is is bit expensive but it is made to seal tight to the socket and to not vibrate loose.
My Yamaha adapter plug has never come loose even on the roughest trails at stupid fast speeds. I have also never blown a fuse while using it on my Yamaha heated helmet shield except if I unplug the cord at the helmet end and let the center pin accidentally ground out on the sled with it running.

First fuse blew at 1,643 miles -- I think I will put in another fuse.

3200 miles using the accessory power and no blown fuses. I tapped into the wires below the plug.

I will be re-wiring my aux. jack directly to the battery with an inline fuse before my next trip. On my last trip I brought along my car charger for my cell phone in case my phone battery went dead.
Well the phone battery did go dead and I had to plug in the charger to use the phone when stopped along side the trail. The problem of course is that I had to keep the engine running to power the phone.
After I re-wire the aux. jack directly to the battery I will be able to charge or use my phone during stops with the engine off, my electric shield will stay fog free when plugged in during stops, and I can use the adapter plug on my Optimate to charge the sled battery through the aux. jack without having to remove a panel to access the "pigtail".
