Just got back from my Dealer to see the new Vipers. First issue he showed me was a sheet of specs that every buyer is to given,t and it showed the real useable size of the gas tank is 8.94 US gallons. I think the original spec sheet shows fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons, so that is quit a difference. A little smaller then advertised. Next was the adjusting bolt for the chain adjustment. I guess it is a real pain in the A$$ to get to. Have to take some things off to get to it. Maybe that is why on the Cat models they have the self adjusters. The next idem may just be an issue for the Vipers he got in so far, but on 3 of the 4 sleds he got in the left hand side housing on the handle bars that house the two switches(probably for high beam and thumb adjusters) was crushed and broken from the way they were crated and shipped. Also on one of the Vipers the speedometer pod was also broken, from being crated they way they were. Were most of you who have picked up their vipers, told about the smaller gas tank capacity?

It will be larger than my nytro tank so not a concern for me. Perhaps it was changed as the exhaust is under the tank. I would rather have a manual adjuster than a self adjuster and be blowing belts all the time. That is a shipping issue and yamaha's problem, I will not take delivery until those items were replaced, if that happens to me tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up though.

1st I have heard about these problems, but your dealer should be notifying Yamaha right away.

The tank issue, I am not worried either as I myslef have a Nytro.

X2 - Thanks for the heads up!

I spoke with a Yamaha rep @ the Big East show concerning the changes made since the Spring intro. The manual adjuster bolt for the chain case is located directly behind the muffler. It needs to be checked for adjustment at the 500 mile mark. The only way to do that is to remove the muffler. Looks easy enough to do, only thing is that there is a gasket between the pipe and the can. That probably should be replaced at the same time. I'd like to order a gasket now and have it available when needed, but wit no parts manual unable to do it.

Ntyro40Th Yamaha made that change to the manual adjuster and put the APEX drive chane in. To adjust the chane and they say after the fisrt 300 miles to do so you have to remove the exhaust can and O2 sencer on the can. Not that big of a deal if you like wrenchs and especially if you owned a SRX that was worse. On my Apex it has 12000 miles on it and i always check it and only the frist time it actually had to move the adjusting bolt and that was only a half a turn on the bolt.

I don't like the gas issue either but the ntyro guys are not to worried about it as long as you can get a 100 miles riding like you stole it all will be good.
My sled didn't have a sratch on it just the carbid nuts worry missing. So far all is good.

Yes I am aware of that. It does not sound like a big deal at all. Like I said a manual adjuster is better than blowing belts lol

Not happy about the gas tank issues either. One big reason I would go away from my Apex is range, the 9.2 gal Apex tank is probably a lot less useable gas. We have been riding in upstate NY around Cranberry lake where gas is not readily available. They must have "forgot" to mention the smaller tank when they released all the Yamaha improvements. Still on the fence myself, dealer can get me one but can't say when. Years ago I was always the last to need gas on my Yamaha, now riding with 800 etecs and 800 Cats with 12 gal tanks I am always the 1st.

The two problems for me are just simple things.....
1) the wiring harness is :o| junk! I saw an apex and viper side by side with the hoods off..... It was very clear the diff in quality! Not that it is a big problem at all just ugly and looks slapped together. why even use loom with the amount of electrical tape all over the place....
2) the belt cover has to be unbolted to get it off??? not really pumped on that.
However everything else look very Yamaha to me and I am so excited to get out and find some hills to play on :yam:

I believe it was 7.5 gallons. 100 miles plus is what I saw on average.

Agree with Nytro40th, 100 miles on trail easy. I have had a few times getting 118 - 123

good to know! I think there will be a few more holes in it when I am done just to be on the safe side
