Bad temp sensor would be my first guess, or its wiring.. But its only that - a guess.

X2. Even if the thermostat was stuck open, I can't believe that it wouldn't get warm enough to get it out of warm up mode. Usually only takes a minute or two so it doesn't even get that warm to turn the light off.
I had a bad sensor do that on my 2012 last year.

That sucks.
When you checked the coolant level previously, did you look at the level inside the radiator? Seems odd that you didn't notice a leak. I hope you didn't damage the engine.

That blows.
When did it happen? Was the light on the last time you parked it? Sounds like there should have been some coolant on the floor. Unfortunately you might have done the most damage by running it with the light on. Best case scenario, new exchanger. Worst case scenario, new exchanger and head milled. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds like the engine is OK but you should have the compression checked just in case.

Unfortunately the Nytro is built around that exchanger

well so far its 450 for heat exchanger.. need a new jackshaft bearing, coolant and chain case oil, roughly 8 hrs of labor.. looking at around 1800 bucks with taxes for the dealer to do it

I sent a stud though my heat exchanger. I Welded it back shut. Free fix... Take it to a welding shop. Depending how big the hole is, could be a cheap fix...

I had like a 6'' tear right through... i debated on trying to weld it but it was too big and bad

What about finding a good used one? That should save at least a couple hundred.
