Sled is a 2003 RX1 with Bender Stage 2. I recently picked it up this summer (so I haven't gotten to ride it) and was informed that it needed to be 'tuned' yet. Began going through it to get a baseline with what I had and here is what I found. I'll start with what I think is a very "rich" issue going on in the carbs, but it would be great to have that verified by some of the rx1 gurus on here.
First off - running Garrett GT2554, pitot jet is a 400 I believe (very hard to read for some reason). Main jets are 165 which seems quite rich based on what I've been reading. Pilots are 22.5 which also seems rich. Didn't check the needles tonight - I will check their position soon enough. Also I believe it has the 'red' Holtzman springs in the carbs. Sled will be run at sea-level in Minnesota winters. I will be picking up the billet carb T's and the STM caps and likely a small headshim too. Motor is all stock currently...just the rear mount. I do plan on running a decent wet shot on this motor too, but I don't believe that will have a substantial impact on my jetting. I'd like to get is dialed in a little on the safe side and lean out as I get more comfortable with tuning it.
A couple years ago, I had a turbo RX1 mountain (with a Bender rear mount) and if I remember correctly, at sea-level my mains were 135'ish and my pilots were in the high-teens which is also what I seem to be reading on the forums here.
I plan on diving into the clutching and gearing situation soon enough, but I'd like to get it running right first and get my A/F dialed in throughout the powerband. Sled is going to be my 1000' ice sled and I'm just trying to get things together prior to the season. Thank you all for your help and input. I don't post very much but I have learned a bunch from you guys...thanks much!

as far as jetting, most I know, especially the benders run around 135's for mains, 17.5 pilots and the pitot jet can be whatever based on the specific turbo setup.
a 2554 in a rear mount just isnt gonna push the air for those jetting numbers.
also, for carb springs, try either stock, or the hurricane carb springs. people seem to have poor or mixed results at best with the colored springs...
also, for the pitot jet, get a bleeder type boost controler and install it instead of the jet, then you can fine tune with the knob instead of having to carry around jets, its how I ran mine and it worked awsome, I ran the T'd pitot tube up to the dash and just adjusted the controller for my WOT afr.. worked out awsome.

the600ex: Looks like Ski-Dooin' it has you set good for a start point.
I ride mostly just under 3000 ft elevation. You will love the Hurricane springs for hole shot. They get rid of all the bottom end stumble that most Benders experience when accelerating from WOT from a dead stop.
I run my fuel screws at 1.75 turns off seat. That usually gets me 13.5-14.2 on the wideband at idle. Depending on temp and elevation; my house is 900 ft. and 2800ft on top the mountain.
You will probably want to start around 2 turns for closer to sea level.
That was running 135 mains, 17.5 pilots, needles in middle position.

Thank you!
Went to 135 mains, 17.5 pilots, 2 turns out on the fuel screws. Switched back to the stock CV springs for now too. I will investigate the Hurricane springs too as they sound like they work great.
I had the sled running last night on the electric pump and it ran great (prior to these changes, the sled would not run on the electric pump - just bog out - so it could only run on the factory fuel pumps.)
Any recommendations on clutch weights to get me in the ballpark. I plan on running 1000' at ~9psi to start. The supertips seem like a great way to go, what do you think?
Thanks again!

Re: Thank you!
If prior to your changes it wouldn't run on the electric pump, the fuel pressure was too high for some reason.
The factory pulse fuel pumps are only there as a backup limp home if the electric pump fails on the trail. Those don't provide enough pressure to overcome the boost pressure in the float bowls (boost pushes fuel back up the needle and seat...) so need the electric pump and rising rate regulator to run correctly.the600ex said:I had the sled running last night on the electric pump and it ran great (prior to these changes, the sled would not run on the electric pump - just bog out - so it could only run on the factory fuel pumps.)

Hi all,
I spoke to a few folks at Haydays and here is what I gathered for clutching suggestions. It sounded like a really good place to start. 60g base super tips running 21-22g per arm for a total of 81-82gram each. Yami wht/wht/wht primary, white secondary, and a helix cut approx 50/44.
Does anyone have any gearing recommendations for 1000' ice?
Thanks! I can't wait for the lakes to freeze.
