Dip stick is in the tank, unplug the sensor in top of tank and unscrew it oil level is on stick(eng shut off and stick screwed all the way back in is the correct level).....
Where did you put the oil in the the eng through, most all the oil for the eng is in the tank anyways, when you drained the oil out of the tank you should have seen this and very little comes out of the eng.Hope this helps..........Guys you are right ,maybe i should read my owners manual while i am waiting for the snow .Thanks for correcting me sorry for the wrong info....

You should be adding the oil to the tank where the dipstick is. When you drain...you drain the tank and the motor. Oil level is checked HOT and on the 05 it says DO NOT screw the stick back in to check level. Quote out of my manual:
"remove the oil leven gauge/dipstick, wipe it clean, insert it back into the filler hole (without screwing it in), and then remove it again to check the oil level."
So unless yamrx1's sled manual says different...he is wrong. I am pretty sure ALL rx models the oil is checked this way.
Order a manual...there cheap.

Go to your local Dealer or call Port Yamaha and order a owners or service manual. I would suggest reading the manual and redo your oil change. It may cost you a few bucks, but it will save you in the end.

Yep as oak hill said your going to need to drain the oil back out of the engine. Its a dry sump style and it may wreck something if you try and start it with the crankcase overfull of oil.
On my 05 it takes about 3.75 quarts with a new filter.I put 1/4 of a quart in the engine then the 3.5 quarts in the oil tank and start it and warm it up then check oil on dipstick in tank.It has to be ran in order to get a accurate reading on the dipstick.

I just finished my first oil change on my RX-1, I now completely understand why they you only have to change the filter every 12K. It takes a while to just get to the filter. Did find a huge mouse nest under the tool box, it was good to clean it out. What a project. I ended up putting just under 4 quarts in, I think it is a tough overfull. It is very hard to see on the stick.

While you are at the tank, there is a little screen in the lower tank collection. You may want to check that. Do not loose the O-ring when you take the connection off from the tank. It may stick to the tank for a while. But, It will probably drop off before you get the connector back on.

Based on what he wrote I assumed that he did NOT drain the Tank. (I usually assume worst case scenario.) That's why I kinda pointed him in that direction.
