Been wanting one of the new Yammis for some time now. Local Dealer has a Red '05 Vector Mountain listed for $8265 but say they can come down 1k to ~$7200. I'm currently riding a 01 SX700R w/ a 136" track/tunnel with just under 1800 miles on it(i've only put on ~200 of those). Looks almost new, should be able to get ~$3200 for it. But to me it's too dang heavy and I have a hard time steering the thing on the well groomed trails unless i'm off throttle(i know, setup problem).

I'm just wondering if this is a good deal and if i'll be overly impressed with the vector. I'm 190lbs wet and 6'4". I'm locally a flatlander but take frequent trips out to the Black Hills and the Horns. Is the Vector suspension inferior to the rx1's? Will I miss the extra cylinder? Should I turbo it? Anything else I should know? I'm not completely sold yet.

I think it's the best sled in the line, that's my opinion anyway. 120hp out of the box is probably close to your SXR with more grunt, unless you've piped. I really liked the Viper as well but this Vector with a turbo is incredible and in a different league than the 2 stroke.

Is $7000-7400 a good price or can they do better? Will this thing hold up in the ditches or is it too much track? thnx for the replies

A 151 Mtn sled is not a ditch banger. It will be tippier than your SXR and is plusher suspended. It transfers weight very well, better than last years sleds. I use my sled for everything but I don't bang the ditches and only do a little trail.

My dealer told me he found the last avaiable MTN Vector in 3 states, I was just making sure. 7800, could not get him any lower. He had to get it from another dealer.

Do you think there will be enough of them around by the end of this season or the beginning of next to pick a used one up in the $5k range. Wife doesn't like the idea, she doesn't like sledding either, and i'd be willing to wait until next season to pick one up. I'm sold on the sled, just not the timing. I've barely put any miles on my sx700r and I like the sound of financinng $2k instead of $5k. The dealer said if the sled is still there in the spring it will be the same price(~7k). They don't push a whole lot of sleds, especially yamahas(they still have an 03 viper, rmk, ...). So it's new now, or used later. Decisions decisions.

if the dealer is only going to charge you 7200 and give you 3200 for your 01, you should tke his arm off IMO. Great sled....but not a ditch banger! With a turbo it is very impressive.

I would take it now. By the sounds of things out here there won't be many if any used ones since the new suspension is so good I think the people who stepped up now and got one will hang on to them. IMO

The only major hurtle... is the wife. She says no grrrrr. This comming from the person that just got a Benz suv.

Just tell her it'll only cost you more next year, cos your sled'll be another year older and the demand is going up for the 4 strokes, so you won't get as good a deal.
