Hey LB any chance you have a part number or something for the light weight gears to go 23/40 not having to replace the chain sounds good to me.

If you're waiting on this info, just go to your Polaris dealer and speak to the parts counter. My bottom gear came off a 2001 XCR 800 in the Gen-II chassis and it was a hyvo. I'm pretty sure all of the Edge and Gen-II 500cc + models use hyvo chains, so it should be pretty straightforward to order. If you want the lightweight sprockets, most Polaris dealers have the racing and/or accessory catalogue and you can order straight out of that.

WHat is the non revers stock gears for the top and bottom I think this would help my sled alot it just doesnt seem to have enough HP to pull into the overdrive unless I am on bare ice. 117-118 MPH on dream meter on trail but good conditions on bare ice you can almost feel it shift into the overdrive 129 MPH

The light-weight gears I've seen have been aluminum - for racing application only. As a matter of longevity, you're going to want standard gears.race24x said:Hey LB any chance you have a part number or something for the light weight gears to go 23/40 not having to replace the chain sounds good to me.
You won't mind though - I do know what they say about rotating weight being so much more important than non-rotating weight, BUT, you're gearing down 10%, which is like loosing 70-80 pounds in terms of what you gain in the bottom end. Buy a stock 40T bottom and stock 23T top, or at least buy STEEL.

I have someone with a 40 for sale but I am wondering what they are stock. will I need to buy both gears? Is it like a motorcycle chain and I should replace both sprockets and the chain at the same time?

gears
lite wight gears are still made of steel. its just the area around the hub has been drilled with a seres of holes to reduce the rotating wight thats all. i use epi lower gears. and there is a big wight loss from the stk gears. there are al gears as well but there race only. as they will not stand up for trail use.
