need info on putting reverse on 05 rx1

i have a 05 rx1 and want to put reverse on it will any of what i have now work ,do i need to buy a complete setup and what years will work apex included or not

any info would be great

I've put reverse on two rx1's, both the mountain version, and there are quite a few parts in the kit. You use your chaincase , top gear , chain (depending on the gear ratio) and chain tensioner. The cover is different as are the lower gears and there is also an idler gear added in there. Go to the Yamaha Parts Finder at the top of this page and work yourself through to the parts breakdown on the different chaincase setups and this will give you an idea of what you are in for, Ken.

The first time I put in a reverse kit, it took ~ 4hrs. Last time, it took almost two. Spent most of the time reading and checking drawings, etc.. If you are used to the inside of the case, go for it. BTW, the shift linkage adjustments have to dead nuts on. Otherwise, you may get some unexpected noises when shifting.

not sure. I think the cover in 05 is different and that leads me to believe the 03-04 are.

Are the reverse covers different or was it the standard cover that was different ? I think that they went with titanium cover in 05 but I'm not sure if that was on the reverse models, Ken.

Just checked the parts finder and shows different part number for 05 verses 03-04.

The 05 cover has a different place to mount the park brake too. It actually is cast that you could use it on an 03-04 you would just have to tap the hole. The 03-04 will not work on the 05 unless you want to loose the park brake.

so what would i be able to get or buy to make a reverse setup on my sled , would i need a complete 05 chaincase with reverse or just the cover and whatever parts on the inside and does theapex kit work on it , want reverse but dont know what to get and dont want to go to the dealer and buy a complete setup if not needed

Try ebay or watch this forum's classified's. Someone will eventually be installing turbo and be selling there reverse.........

Not sure but that is how I bought mine. I guess if a guy is making it into a drag sled...........
