I'm going to add another rear axle wheel (7"?) with the other 3 (4th Wheel Kit) to the Apex and Attak this fall. Last year I added the 4th wheel kit to the RS Venture and noticed that my slides wore more evenly just in front of the axle than they did in the 2 previous years on that machine . My family put approx. 2,000 miles on each of our 3 machines last snowmobile season and our slides hardly wore. But for some reason I have a slight fear that the inside idlers that are on the Attak and Apex are going to fail at some point and create a problem
I really see no need for the 2 (5") inside idlers (Apex & Attak) that sit just in front of the rear 7" wheels at all. I have no issues with slide wear on my RS Venture and it doesn't have inside idlers wheels. The span between the rear outside idlers and rear axle wheels on the Venture is spaced further apart than what would be if I were to remove the inside idlers on either the Apex or Attak.
I really beleive that alot of fuss is being made about these inside idlers. I'm thinking of just removing those idlers from the skid. I'm guessing here but if I were to add a 4th wheel kit to the axles of the Apex & Attak they would keep the track evenly centered. Along with the addition of SLP pads I beleive that the slides would wear just fine.
These assumptions are based upon the wear that I have seen on the RS Venture with the 4th wheel kit added. Something to think about!!

Anybody running without the inside idlers on the Apex or Attak?

I made 2 season with my last slide, the thing i made to improve slide wear is:

1. Cut the closed window on the track

2. Put yamaha narow slide

But still want more that is why i will change for doo wheels.

But i don't think remove wheels will help,it will just built more heat on the slide.Maybe it will wear more even but faster.

I think the wheels are extremely important.. Larger ones in the front helps with slider wear a ton..

also install the Rx-1 narrow slides,, it allows more snow in the track..
