Taller windshield is usually clear instead of accented like factory. It doesn't come up any further to protect your hands from the wind. So your hands are still unprotected. This snowcross raised bars thing is fine but design a windshield that works for them as well, from the factory. So the cover fits and the trim is right. Please its all I ask.
Iv'e seen this over and over as the Manufactures add bars risers going for that snowcross look. They leave the windshield which used to work for wind protection the same. I can live with a windshield that is low to med in height as long as it covers the handlebars and does the job of deflecting wind off the hands.
When I look at a sled from the front at handlebar level and can see the handgrips above the windshield the windshield is way to low. I do not want to and will not put hand gaurds on a sled.
You want me to pay 14,500 bucks for it. At least give me a working windshield. Not just a gauge cover, my hands are what I want to keep warm.
Just my 2 cents.

I was at the Ypsi show Thursday evening and turned the skis on the Attak all the way to the stops. With the more vertical steering stem the forward handlebar doesn't rise as much as a more reclined steering. What i'm getting at is the handlebar turns forward over the side cutouts in the windscreen so the screen can't be any higher. Only the center portion of the screen could be raised unless the basic shape of the windscreen is changed. Don't see any optional windshields in the accessory book yet for the new models? Maybe later? Just my thoughts. RR I'll take a GT and lose the colored windscreen!

The X package REVs almost have no windshield at all and my adrenaline has the much larger mobile windshield. I have found the same thing with the REV and the RX-1 that the wind comes around the sides more than it does on the older style sled. Both the REV and the RX-1 have sleek sides that cause this but its never bothered me on either sled.

I would not be surprised if these windshields were wind tunnel test and more effective than we think. A number of guys here will be riding the sleds over the next several weeks so we will have a good idea if it is a problem.
Try this. With my dealer did on past sled purchases, If I asked for a bigger windshield prior to picking it up he would only charge 1/2 price and put my take-off windshield in his parts dept for stock spares.

Hey the windshield on my 05 doesn't keep my hands warm worth sh#t. The 06 shields look like they are no better. Hard to say for sure without riding one I will agree. I have no intention of buying a new sled for a few years anyway.
My coments on poor wind protection are to stimulate thought on Yamis part to make wind protection a priority. Too many years now manufactures have gone for the cool shield instead of the usefull shield. I'm hopeing to single handedly change this in a few years. LOL
I carry handlebar muffs or big hands or whatever you call them on the 05 because cold hands suck. It sure isn't because the warmers don't work that side of my hands are burning up. Small complaint for sure but I'm sure all will agree that if your hands are cold fun has just left the building.

Brilliant give and take. Someone makes an intelligent post and this is what they get in response? I'm impressed with the thought you put into this fine effort.

Look you people gave us the same bs when we were asking for more rider forward position / better suspension / hot graphics. Yamaha came through and the old timers are all bitchin. It's your turn deal with it.
Most of us are happy with the new changes. For many of us they showed that they are listening. A friend who rides polaris is actually lookinging into a yamaha next year because of it. Another friend who would NEVER admit to a yamaha being good, says that he likes them. Demographics are changing and it's a GOOD thing. Deal with it. There's your intelligent post =P
So instead of nitpicking on everything like YOU have done pull your head out of you know where and realize that this is going to give yamaha more market share. More market share means more business which means a greater ability to give us ALL what we want in the future.

I came from Polaris to the 05-RX-1 and I love it. However, If I was to buy this year I wouldn't be excited about the 06's, my 05's only weaknesses compared to my Pol is a little more weight and mediocre wind protection. They have ditched wind protection completely and forced everyone to ride more forward and it is not for everyone.
I have a feeling I might be going right back to Pol if I bought next year as they will have the 750 Turbo 4-stoke and more than likely they will run the adjustable handlebars so I actually have a choice as to how I want to ride.
Yammi defintely added a good new dimension to their lineup - it is just too bad they had to completely ditch what was working for many of us.
Last thing you want to be doing at over 90 mph on a lake is riding more forward.

I don't understand why you people are complaining about lack of wind protection WHEN YOU HAVEN'T EVEN RIDDEN THE SLED YET. Just because the windshield looks low does not mean that it won't work.

I'll see if I can respond without attacking you personally, something you seem unable to do.
1.) I have no problem with Yamaha jumping on the rider forward bandwagon. (let's be honest, that is what they are doing)
2.) I am perfectly willing to buy a rider forward type of sled.
3.) My beef is that they have abandoned the market that they were just beginning to dominate. The high speed trail cruiser market. If you look where this type of riding is done, you will find a lot of it in Quebec. Look at the location of the people who are complaining about the lack of wind protection, or the high center of gravity. We do NOT ride on snocross tracks, so the improved suspension and rider forward position means little or nothing to us as far as benefits. However, sitting up higher and raising the center of gravity will both affect the high speed cornering ability as well and the amount of wind protection available. I can appreciate that you guys who ride beaten trails see this as a major step forward, however, those of us who pack on the miles at high speeds do not. I have been saying all winter that there is not a REV made that can get away from my RX-1 on Quebec trails, and I could probably lose more than my fair share trying to keep up with me. They can't corner as well at speed.

All you have to do is LOOK at it. Come on, you can't see that these sleds offer less wind protection?
