Hey guys. Rode about 600 miles this last weekend (before my sled died) with a new Ulmer clutch set-up. Wow did it wake it up!!! It completely changed the attitude of the sled. It feels much quicker in the 30-70mph range. I tried to hit its max top speed many times on many different trail conditions but 86 mph (speedo) was its max before hitting the rev limiter at 9150. As slow as it climbed after 80mph, I don't think it has potential to go any faster in its current configuration but would like to hear your thoughts.

thanks

If you are hitting the limiter I would add one washer to the tip. As for top speed, if conditions were sloppy that's pretty consistent with what many were getting.

X2 it was pretty warm out

Use the recall feature to find out your true Max Rpm. If you saw 9150 you were probably much higher than that since you hear rev limiter on a Late 15 at 9250. Thats good news since it means you have to add weight to your clutch setup. Shoot for 9100 on Recall. You will gain MPH when you add the weight to the tips. Guaranteed.

Most of the week and weekend was near 30 degrees, but early Friday morning was -12F a little east of Raco. We came across some good hard pack roads there and this is where I realized it would not go over 86mph. In those good conditions, it would hold rpm's at ~8800 then climb very slowly after 80mph. So slow that I was thinking it had completely shifted out and was just rpm'ing. Apparently that's not the case. Allens instructions did say if RPM's were to high to add 3 rivets (included). There are .8gm rivets currently in the tips and when I get the sled back I will change them.

Cannondale, this is interesting because I was literally feathering the throttle at speed to keep it from going over 9150 to see if I could get more top end speed. I say this to emphasize; when it got to exactly 9150, it would hit the rev limiter, then I'd back throttle off a little to keep it just under this and every time it hit 9150; it limited. I'm confident my sled's limiter is not 9250.

Use the recall to check. It's possible you have a un updated 15. There were some at dealers in spring of 15. Either way add wieght. Shoot for 9000-9100 if you have the 14 flash.

Thanks for the info. I'll remember the max recall next time. The dealer also ran its numbers to see if it qualified for a flash but said it didn't. This sled has always started and idled like crap. It will even stall at times but after engagement, it runs perfect. I see the '16 ECU is a different part #. Would you have any inside info on this, if it's any better for the starting, burble, etc? I might pass this on to the dealer.

Will add the weight also. I don't really care if the sled goes much faster. It's a trail sled (corner to corner) and in reality there aren't many places to stretch its legs to go that fast but if its free, might as well take advantage of it for those time when I can.

Interesting, my buddy and I have rode together almost 20,000 miles on an Attak & Vector. I know those speedo's (dream wheels) were exactly the same. Now comparing this Viper to his Vector, I noticed it reads 7mph slower at 60 - 70 mph. Don't know how far off it is any faster; possibly more. This means my Viper at 86 is compared to my Attak @ 93. Looking at it like that makes me even feel better:)

Thanks again, will keep you guys updated-

Bringing this back up-

Because of my sleds especially bad running characteristic around 2700rpm's, I decided to go the EVO route. I did the all stock/91 octane. When I talked with EVO, they would not guarantee a fix but it that would be better than before. They talked like this was a known issue at that rpm range and had changed fueling to compensate for it. Well, I had a chance to test it out around my field and down the road and have to say; wow and crap. Wow; this thing flies. I hit 100 out on the road and it was still climbing @ 9200rpm's. Crap; this thing pop, bangs and runs like crap as always at high idle.

A couple of questions-
Having a rev limiter at 9800; should I not worry about being over the stock shift target, or should I still add tip weight and bring it down a little?

Also, in hind sight, maybe I should have went with the PCV for tuning out the burble, but I really didn't want the learning curve. However my sled is almost unridable at very slow speeds, especially coming into tight corners where the throttle has to be greatly reduced. It just won't run at that rpm range. I wish I could figure this out.
