Well we went to a local drag race this past sunday, the elevation was 3000' temp. was 0 in the morning and went to 13c by the afternoon. Track was very smooth but the snow was rotten so it was like taking off on sugar. There was 4 RX-1 Turbos in our group. 1 MC-Xpress front mount, 2 MC-Xpress rear mounts and mine the Junk Yard Dog. The other 3 guys entered the short track classes (Mod 800, Mod 1000 and Open Mod) Then all 4 of us entered the Mountain Mod 800, Mountain Mod 1000 and the Open Mod Mountain classes. My dealer P.G. Yamaha who is the MC-Xpress dealer for Canada (250-562-4151) had the front MC Turbo, Gary was riding it with a 159x2"x16 wide Doo track, Don his partner with a 151x2"x15 finger track and rear MC Turbo, Mike a buddy with a 159x2"x16" Doo track and a rear MC Turbo and myself 159x2"x15 challenger with the my own designed Turbo kit. The day was shaping up good untill they let everyone do a test run just before the races. After we made our test run some of the guys in our classes backed out and took their names off the roster? I guess they didn't like what they saw when we did our test runs :4STroke: It was pretty informal racing, they just had a flag man for the start, and 2 flag men at the finish to call the winners. (I know pretty lame compared to you guys back East) Anyways a couple of brave souls stayed to race with us in the above classes. The best of the Power Saws was a 1010 Mountain Cat with some trick parts on it and a finger track. I can't remeber who all won what classes out of our group (the orders that is but we took ALL the trophies. Sucks getting old and the mind goes). My dealer is going to call me with who won what class and 2nd and 3rd and I will post it on here. Anyways Gary's front Mc on got beat once by Mikes rear MC so I'd say he did the most spanking. Mike got one 1st several 2nds and some 3rds, Don rear MC got several seconds and some 3rds. I personally did get to put one MC rear Turbo on the trailer in the 800 Mountain Mod class and I got to put the other rear MC Turbo on the trailer in the Open Mountain Mod class. Finish 3rd in both those classes being beat out by 1 front mount MC and 1 rear mount MC Turbo both classes. Bottom line, I got beat, but I did get to play which is better then watching. Like I said the snow was rotten and we were digging pretty good trenches getting out of the hole and they didn't have any timming for the E.T.s but the local Police were radaring us. Gary's front Mc was the fastest at 160kph which works out to 99.41mph mine was 154kph which works out to 95.69mph the 2 rear mounts were somewhere between mine and Gary's most runs. This was in 660'. Oh yea that 1010 Cat I mentioned earlier, well God Damn did that thing hole shot me, 4-5 sled lengths! but I had him by 5-6 sled lengths by the finish line. I was $hitt'n when I seen him crank me outa the hole, but it was short lived. I'm going to send RX-warrior a picture and see if he can put it on here for me, I can't make it small enough to fit for some reason. In the picture the little guy on the right is Don's son he joined in the fun with us but his sled was too small for the class he was in. The girl on the left is Gary's daughter, she put lots of boys on the trailer with her Viper and got a couple trophys as well. We all had a great time, there was lots of ribbing going on in the pits and I tried to sike out the boyz on the MC-turbos but it never worked. Anybody want a home made turbo kit? I sure would like one of those rear MC kits for next year!

I am posting these pics for Snow Fever.

Thanks RX-warrior for fixing my pictures. The 1st one is my dealers front mount MC-Turbo. He has lightened this sled up quite a bit but, with all of our trophys on it, it probably weighs the same as mine. It was a good day in the Yamy camp!

Love that pic. Congrats.

Not too many trophys at the Cat Gathering.

Not much for them to do but drown their sorrows it appears. :yam:

Nothin against the aftermarket boys but I wish the Y guys would put out a stocker with a Turbo to help shut up the meowing kitty guys in the stock classes.

:4STroke:

No other band or model, got any trophies in the big (800 and up) classes. We damn near got enough to melt down and build a new sled. Yes it would be nice if you could buy this sled with a Turbo but, I'll tell you what even for the cost its worth every cent every time you pull the trigger :yam:

Goodjob!!!

Congratulations !!!

Good job Gary,Jes,Don,Mike and Rob....... sure showed those northern BC RX1 doubters whats up...... just wish i coulda been there to see it. (damn college)

what class was Jes entered in.....

Also rob i have been following your JUNKYARD DOG project and i would like to say you have done some impressive engineering and fab work.....
Cant wait to get outta school and put some of these engineering classes to work.........

Raised on Blue, Thanks. I'm not sure what all classes Jess entered but the thing that was beat'n her was a 700 Fire-Cat. Keep in mind the engagement on her sled was 3200 and we never had a spring to fix this as Don and Gary wouldn't share their springs with the rest of us and my springs were all low engagement (Short springs from the old style clutches) . (So much for team work hey?) She was disapointed after getting her 1st trophy that was a second place and I told her hey theres lots of boyz with their sleds already loaded because of you. The other thing was that she had a few practice runs the day before against mom up on the mountain. Pretty damn good I say. (I only got 3rds) and I like to think I know a little about racing. P.S. who are you? I could use a good engineer to help me Smoke Gary :o|

Ken-climb, any idea why Mike from down your way never came up for the hill climb? I heard he was doing some spanking at Valmounts hill climb. This was all at Barkerville, the hill climb on Sat had a small shacane at the bottom then it was a straight shot to the top with a 4' corness to fly over at speed. 98% of the sleds went over, it was just a matter of how fast and well you flew over that corness to break the timming lights. I was looking forward to seeing his RX-1 Turbo go. I've done snow crosses, cross countrys, ovals and drags but never had the BALLS to do the hill climbs. Something about the possibilty of cart wheeling my sled down a hill in front of hundreds of spectators makes me shy away. I don't mind cranking that hill as a weekend warrior but not for CASH or CRASH.

I don't no why Mike didn't make it to Barkerville.I entered the pheonix mountian hillclimb here in Grand forks this past weekend .It was the first time they ever had it here and was held here because Apex ski hill bailed out at the last second so Reid Hedlund decided to have it at our local t-bar hill. Our hill is steep and mogally and is great for spectators, they could see the whole run.It was amazing how well Reid and wife Tina had this organized in less then 2 weeks and with a little luck we managed to have a just enough snow! With Reids connections he managed to get The rocky mountain hillclimbers to show up and the BC racer's as well.
Ive never raced before and it showed!Since I have a turbo they would'nt let me go in the amatuer class so I was racing the pro's with there full out titanium built 2-300hp mods that probably averaged 200lb's lighter then my sled. The course was very bumpy and hard packed with lots of off canter tight turns.I managed to qualify to the finals and was happy with that.In the finals I decided I'm gonna really go for it,So I pinned it off the gate and at the first turn there was a big bump and i chopped the throttle it stalled.Friggin pissed off i got it going and tried to make up time, when i got to the last 100' stretch I held it pinned wheelying over the mogals around 65m/h trying to make up lost time thats when my front end got kicked down and i went cart wheelying over the bars.Luckily I just twisted my ankle a bit and no damage to the sled.
Every one loved the sled though and I probably let 20 people try it out and the racers couldn't believe the power and were very stoked on the the new tripple coming out.
All in all still a fun day but I think I'll be sticking to the back country riding like I enjoy! Ken

Ken, at least you had the balls to enter, I jammed at our hill climb and it just had a shuwcane at the bottom and a straight power pull to a cornice at the top. I to think its best to stick to the back country stuff. Did you get a chance to ride with Gulian and little Dean at all this year? I was hoping to get down there and ride with them but I got a promotion at work that ment longer hours and more days so I never made it. If you ever take a run up this way (P.G.) give me a call and we'll show ya some new country.

What kind of promotion is that?"longer hours and more day's"I wish our hill climb was straight up,then I'd have a chance!Reid made the course with as many off canter turns and bumps as he could.(probably just for me,to try convert me back to polaris)but my passion is the back country and this sled up's the fun factor to a new level in the steep and deep.
The next time I upgrade will be when they fuel inject these things to get rid of the what I call "turbo farts"(when you chop the throttle to quickly over a bump's and it dies)wich is very dangerous depending on where you are on the mountain when this happens.I heard the front mounted mc-xpress isn't as bad as the rear one for "turbo farts"Oh well thats why I got it insured after the first time I rode it!Mcxpress has been putting on a big blow off valve on the intercooler on there latest batch of turbo's but I havn't heard if this helps(i'm sure it will some)and I was thinking of putting in a bigger pilot jet so that I can maintain my idle to around 2,000 rpm and see if this works.

The blow off valve does help but doesn't eliminate the problem. I have one on my sled and the latest kit Gary and Don got has it on it (Dons sled) but it still does do it. I find just don't chop the throttle right off but instead ease off and no problem. I was also thinking about trying those new long hex jets they advertise instead of using the mountain float bowls and see if that helps. Problem is I can't figure out if it goes extreme rich or lean when it dies. What do you figure?
