Removed seal from drive bearing today and found a very ugly rusty bearing inside. Snapped off my only two torx bits trying to remove the set screws for the collar, so I used the gas wrench to remove it. Is this a bearing I can find elsewhere than Yamaha? Checked jackshaft bearing, looked fine so I added grease and put the seal back on.

Yes the driveshaft bearing is standard bearing, and can save you money to by it somewhere else, but the jackshaft,on the dry side is a tapered fit,and yamaha fit only,i installed what had same numbers on it,except for the letters, that we found out mean taper, only to find out it or shaft wont go in al the way, because of the taper, the two tappered shims wont work.

Thanks guys, I'm picking up my driveshaft bearing tomorrow at NAPA. I'm aware that the jackshaft one is a yamaha fit, thanks to TY. Appreciate the help!

I saw three of those drive shaft bearings fail last winter on 03's at around 6000 - 7000 Km. As my Warrior has that amount of mileage I'm changing the bearing before winter and if the old one has any life left will keep it for a spare when on trips. I'd rather be safe then sorry.

A friend of mine just put a turbo on his '03, I'm going to make sure he checks his bearings. Hate to see any sled go down because of something like this.

Guys, I have read in several posts that it is possible to move the seals on the bearings, clean out the old grease, repack them and reinstall the seals. How are the seals being removed without damaging them? I've tried this on a couple of old bogie wheels bearings and have damaged the seals during the removal. Those seals are fragile, it dosen't take much to mess them up. What tool have you guys been using and where do you start lifting the seal out? Thanks!!

Jim

Use a sharp pick get under the out side edge .When the pick is under the
inner side of the seal turn it so that the pick is parralel with the seal it is probably out by now .If not lift gently once you catch on it is really easy .
practise on old bearrings helps .
