Finger tight and back off 1/4 turn then lock the jamb nut is the general rule of thumb.

If the sled has reverse you will always have that slack. Something to do with how reverse works. W/O rev, minimal slack.

Be sure to turn secondary clutch ccw to bring the slack to the adjuster then finger tight with 1/4 back off and yes there is supose to be some slack so it can go in and out of reverse

What he said, you can also tug on the track to take up slack.

Never did mine that way but that is probably the best/most accurate way of checking/tightening the chain.
When you say finger tight, do you mean just tighten until you start to feel some light resistance or do you tighten it until you can no longer get it any tighter with your fingers?

I have always "lightly" tightened the chain tensioner bolt with my fingers and then locked down the jam nut.
I was also surprised by how much back and forth rotational slop is present in the gearbox even after the slack is taken out of the chain.

the back and forth "slop" as people say is in the bottom gear. (2 gears in one) ... its for the reverse.. it is normal in these chain cases.

finger tight to me means as tight as i can get it with my fingers but that is also why i back it off 1/4 turn to tight and you can shear a shaft off.
