Drive shaft bearing...09 Nytro xtx

Looks like my bearing couldn't wait til summer. Trails in eastern u.p. were terrible last weekend and was the last straw for my bearing. I was going to change for piece of mind ....lol I guess it was due.

if it gives you no trouble, you could get away with just doing it. if it is stuck, you will most likely end up pulling the chaincase down to get the shaft out to remove the bearing and might as well do it while you are in there.

Agreed - once you open the chaincase up may as well do them. Otherwise remove the drive bearing and replace and make it till the end of the season.

Well I took plate off and the collar that reads speed sensor and everything else came off by hand. Zero effort or tools lol

Both plates have damage and the one with the foot at bottom on back order til March. bearing in such bad shape not sure which plate it actually rides in.

If this is a high mileage sled, make sure that when you put it together the bearing will fit snug on the shaft not sloppy. My shaft started turning on the bearing (have know idea why this occurred). If it continues it will wear the drive shaft to the point it needs replacing. I ended up drilling small pilot holes in the drive shaft for the set screws to sink into (in order for it to bite on the shaft). Seems to be working fine.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up. Bearing was definately spinning on shaft because I was able to just pull off. Weird thing was that it didn't look like the set screws were ever tightened. Sled has 7k. Does the bearing sandwich between those two plates? If the one with foot has damage am I screwed til March when I can get a new one?

The bearing really should not spin that easy. Look for a ring on the shaft where the set screws may have been spinning carving a groove. If you see that, you could have a problem.

Yes, those two plates sandwich the bearing and somewhat align it with the other side. Those two plates are not related to the shaft spinning on the bearing though. Last time I sandwiched the bearing between the two plates then tightened the inner plate to the bulkhead so it was aligned and not binding on the shaft in any way.

As for the plate with damage. If the bearing 'seats' in the cup no problem and still can be fastened to the side tunnel bulkhead - I would run it.

Let me know how you make out.
