I was up at Cruiserfest in Minocqua WI yesterday and they had 2 Nytro XTX's for test rides. The rep told me there were 3 in the country and they had two of them, so clearly they're early prototypes. In fact, he warned everyone to be extra careful since they had no spare parts for them. The ride was several miles and I rode the XTX out and a short track Nytro back. The concept of having the last part of the skid/track curve up so it doesn't seem like a long track and also get the benefit of the long track in powder is clever & typical of Yamaha. It seemed to have lots of torque and low end grunt. I have not driven a Nytro before and it kind of reminded me of my prior Rev's; I felt a little cramped and not enough stretch-out leg room. Although it has much more leg room than a REV. If you ride off trial or you're looking for lots of bumps for some stand-up driving, it's a wonderful sled. Even with the new engineering in the twisties you still notice it being a longer sled compared to the short track version Nytro. Also, the ride is very cold on the Nytro's. I have a 2007 Apex GT and for me I much prefer the comfort and stronger midrange of the Apex.

Although it is a clever design, the tipped up rail is not a new thing. The first place I saw it was on the Polaris Switchback 144" a few years ago. Polaris has discontinued and since changed to a coupled 136" rail.

How did it ride and handle compared to your apex? and do you have the 13mm swaybar on your sled?

the nytro is a nice sled..but not even close to the apex IMO...not near the power of the 4 banger and not a hi speed trail sled either....ditch banging its awesome, stand up too...but not a sled i would ever want or buy.

I was asked the following question....

How did it ride and handle compared to your apex? and do you have the 13mm swaybar on your sled?

If I had to ride 50 miles of bumpy, twisty trails or if I spent most of my time off the trail, I would pick the Nitro because it handles better in those conditions.

For me, I don't care for most of my riding in the above conditions, so for "normal" trail riding and some time on lakes, the Apex is the way to go for me.

My new Apex is completely stock and I really enjoy it. I even test drove a Ski-Doo 800r XP over the weekend and would rather have my Apex (for my type of riding) for all around conditions, comfort and peace of mind (reliability). The XP is a very nice sled and much better than the previous REV design. This is coming from someone who owned 3 REV's. The XP would have been my second choice in the 150hp category sled. One thing I didn't like about the XP is the vibration I felt in my feet which I don't think should be there in a $10,000 sled.

FWIW - My 06 Apex Mtn has tipped up rails too, it's not a new thing to Yamaha, just new for a non-mtn sled.
