Sorry for all the dumb questions here guys :? but I only want to TURBO my sled for fast, flat trail riding so I am not interested in the racing side of things which is where I find most flatlanders seem to be with these using Turbos.

I have a question...what kits are out there (if any) that will give me around the 190 - 225 HP area on REGULAR 87-89 Octane fuel. Do you have to run Super Unleaded in a TURBO? The reason this would be tough for us is that many times you cannot trust the gas you are getting and the SUPER in some areas in non-existent.

Thanks again.

RXWonder, I have been researching turbo kits as well and what seems to be a common theme is that most of their kits offer 6-8lbs boost on regular gas. It's only when you want to increase the boost that you need to start thinking about the grade of fuel and engine modifications (thicker head gasket, high compression pistons, etc.). Where the differences come into play with each of the kits is how high of a boost you can run which it appears you are not concerned with.

I have 1800mi on my Bender system, allways buy premium when avail. but have run lesser quality fuels when necessary. All you need to do is not hold it open for long distances on lesser quality fuel. Also The use of intercooling on the Bender system lessens the necessity of premium fuel. Lower intake temps lessen the chances of detonation greatly! :ORC

Whatever system you buy make sure it has an efficient intercooler. A good intercooler will usually drop intake temps by at least 60 degrees F. This is doing the engine a huge favour especially when fuel quality is questionable. It gives you a greater margin of safety. If I were in your shoes I would use a boost controller which would give you the option of controlling your boost levels. Both Bender and CPR Simon have Dyno charts available that recorded pre and post intercooler intake charge temps. Check it out for yourself. RX FUN

Our intake temps are on par with intercooled sleds due to fact we inject fuel into the charge.

I tell you what this intercooler thing is old. We beat the #*$&@ out of a Bender sled with an INTERCOOLER and NOS. We beat A MC express with an intercooler. What else do you have to do to prove yourself?? Until one of you intercooler boys beats me I will never be convinced you need to run an intercooler.

Jtssrx, I am not talking about which sled is faster than the next. I am talking from an engine reliability standpoint. Most people on this forum are looking for a kit that combines good performance with long life and reliability. That is why I know getting the intake charge as cool and as dense as possible is important. The fact that you inject fuel does cool intake air but the same is true for the other kits. They inject fuel into the intake charge just before entering the engine. When air is compressed it gets hot. The only thing cooling yours is your fuel. On an intercooled kit the air is compressed, then cooled by the intercooler, then further cooled by the fuel that mixes with it as it passes through the carbs. Unless you are running lower boost pressures there is no way your intake air temps are as low as the intercooled kits. RX FUN

FX Fun do you know the web address for CPR. I would like to see how their kits compair to Bender. I really like what Bender has put together and it seems most people are real happy with his product. I am buying an 05 RX-1 and will be also putting a turbo kit on from someone. Any flatlanders have problems getting these things to hook up with the 121 track. Would I be better having a Warrior for hook up even though it weighs more.

Thanks RX Fun. I notice the CPR turbo is front mounted vs Bender being rear mounted. Is there any difference in lag.

Jtssrx, I never trash mouthed your kit. I was just debating a point and still think I'm right. I hope you sell lots of kits and have many happy customers. Let it snow!!! RX FUN

I do not think RX Fun was attacking your product what so ever. He mearley gave HIS opinion as to the importance of intercoolers. That debate is never going to go away.

Bender and MC are the current undisputed champions of turbo sales. They both now offer rear mounts only. There are many that feel there is a reason for this. I personally think a rear mount is the best option for mountain riders like me. Does that mean your kit is junk? No. We do not get a lot of high speed cold air situations like a flatlander. Instead we get punishing pulls in deep snow at extremely slow speeds relative to the load on our sleds. In those situations having a charge tube that is constantly in cold snow is a benefit that I think is outstanding.

People are not always going to share your opinion. That does not mean they are attacking you or your products.

Thanks Spray, You speak the truth. It is too early in this turbo game to pick winners or losers. Hopefully they are all winners so we can concentrate on the real fun, blowing away Cats, Doo's and Poo's!!!! RX FUN

To imply a intercooler is a must because without one your dependability and longevity will suffer is a knock on our kit any way you guys want to slice it.

I have laundry list of reasons why I would only have a front mount kit. I share them over the phone or through a PM's.

You know there is only one reason why MC went to a rear mount turbo RX FUN. They made make money on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
