Dumping Rage for Attack?

Has anyone out there previously owned a Rage and traded it for a new Attack? If so was it worth the difference in money? Is the Attack that much of a better sled? The reason I am asking is I am teetering on trading my 05 Rage for a left over 06 Attack. I know this winter has been horrible and not a lot of riding but then again I have had nothing but trouble with my Rage and want to enjoy the snow if it comes. I originally dumped my Viper for the Rage and don't want to make the same mistake again. Don't take this the wrong way I am a die hard loyal Yamaha fan!!

If you've had lots of problems with your Rage......I would buy the Attak!!

No problems with the Attak other than:

1) Inside rear wheels
2) Cold hands
3) Non-functional windshield

Other than that I just love my Attak. I just put a rear heat exchanger on it last night to help with cooling in warmer temps.

I have an 05 Rage with 1600 miles and an Attak with 300 miles on it . On the Rage I added Simmons skis with the scratchers to fix the darting and a new spring on the center shock because the bottoming was hard on my back and of course the clutch upgrades this fall , I also pulled the limiter strap down half an inch that really helped with tippiness, never had any real problems with the sled, love the motor and the suspension now....The atttak issues are again bottoming but they have increased the rubber in the shock and it is not bothering my back and darting but I just received Bergstoms and will put those on this weekend . The engine is way too loud for my tastes and there is an annoying drone around 5000 rpm , which is the rpm I am at most often on the single tracks around here. I miss a hinged hood and do not like the engine panels and the mirrors are asking to be broken on the Attak. Both have had overheating issues and I have thinned the antifreeze and added the water wetter .. The gas mileage on the Attak is around 12 so far while I get 18 on the Rage........ I have on order a higher windshield and service manual , parts have been an issue for the Attak and they do not have a rack for the back like I use so often on my Rage

The issue's I have had with the Rage are really involved with lack of dealer knowledge. For some reason it took them five trips to address the TPS issue, and during this time I think they may have hurt the actual performance of the sled. Either way the sled has been in the dealer probably more then ten times and that was last season, I have not had it out this season (again in dealer). Might have to wait for 07 sleds to arrive before I make the change.

Do you think the dealer will know more about the Attak than the Rage? The Attak is even a newer sled.

The TPS issue, I'm assuming this is related to the TORS issue, is a well known and documented issue. Just do some research here. There is even a service update number regarding this problem, replacement of the CDI is in order.

If your dealer doesn't know this, then you better find another dealer. I think that's pretty scary.

Your correct the dealer does know about the update and has had one hell of a time addressing the issue. The Attack I am considering is from another dealer. Just wondering if it is worth the money for the difference. Or am I going to have the same headaches on a diffeent sled.

Hi.... I had a Rage last year and traded it for an Attak. I love the Attak and have over 900 miles on it. The seating position is WAY better on the Attak. The power is WAY better on the Attak. No more clutch noise like was on my rage, even after the yamaha fix. Put the pilot 6.9 skis on my Attak and it's a whole new sled. WAY better rear skid in the Attak. No more ratcheting like the rage did. Ther Attak feels very light, even lighter than the rage. I don't see why some are getting poor MPGs with the Attak, mine is always over 15 mpg, sometimes close to 18 mpg. The Attak does'nt have as good of wind protection but with my bv2s helmet it is like riding in side my house. LOVE THE ATTAK. Grip warmers on the Attak are bad but I am sure yamaha will fix this. If I were you wait and see what yamaha has for 07. Than decide.

I have been thinking about upgrading to the Attak too. An 07 for me would sound just too sweet.

Slush Monster... thanks for the information. I think your right I will probably wait until the 07's arrive and then make the decision. Bad winter and not much riding to compel me this season.

ratcheting?? Thats just a simple adjustment? I have no problems with that all I had was tors problem 3,000 miles now and I love it! Its very quiet and can be decieving because the engine only does 8,700 rpm and when your going 90mph you would never know it by the engine...it feels very light. I would like an Attack but cant complain about the quietness and fuel economy and dependabilty of my Rage I may get an Attack someday but the Rage is going no where!

90 MPH, have never seen 70 on the sled let alone 8000rpm's. The dealer actually had Yamaha on site this summer to take a look at the engine. According to them I should be all set this season... If only there were snow and I could test it out!

Sorry let me clarify, the sled ran great until about 300 miles when the TORS problem started, took it into the delaer and hasn't run right sense. Actually up on tug hill today looking at land and probably going to wait until next year to upgrade.
