Regarding your question do they work? I believe they should help particularly when the slide is in its upper or open position. I beleive they cleanup the transition from the filter to the carb. Without these rings you need to compress the filter opening quite a bit to make they stay put. I worry about how ratty the transition from the filter to the carb becomes. I made a set for myself in my shop an integrated the evac system in it. As soon as I learn how to post pics, I put them on here. My evac system is also heated so I don't have to worry about draining anything or having the system freeze up. The rings I made are longer than the ones Freddie made (see the pic above) and I polished them. So another advantage is I now have more polished stuff under the hood than you.
If you decide to get the rings, have Freddie make them for you.
