electrical system with key on-anyone ever do it?

So just a thought, anyone convert a 4 stroke yamaha to turn on the electrical with the key on? Lots of positives, you can turn on the headlights if you need some light without starting everything up, or a quick fuel check without opening the tank. Shouldn't be too hard, just haven't dug into the electrical diagram yet.
 

Depending on which model you have you can do this already! There is a procedure you can do to turn on lights and gauge without sled running! great when stopped at night. I do it on my gfs 09 vector.

Correct, hold down the thumb warmer button, turn your key on and wait 5-10 seconds and all lights up.

I believe with the Apex's, this isn't rquired.
 
The apex can light up the dash with the key put no lights.

10 seconds is a loooong time when you're trying to get your lights turned on when you suddenly hear someone prying on it and your stopped just around the corner! Being able to turn the lights on with the flick of a switch or the turn of the key would be a nice option
 
Back when blade was around they had a switch on dash that turned on little led lights that was in the headlight and tail and flashed .....I think someone still makes that kit.....
But for safety reasons I wouldn't stop on or by a corner

Well, that's a bad place to stop for one, as has already been mentioned, and, my sled anyways, doesn't take but a second to re-fire if I have stopped for a break trail side.
 
Yeah... Stopping on a corner probably wasn't the best example but I think most of us have had to fire up a sled to get the lights on asap for one reason or another. I guess if being able to turn the lights on without the engine running was standard option, there would be a lot of people with dead batteries ;)!

cars do it, boats do it, pretty much every other vehicle. Be fairly easy to even have a small beeper that would go off if the engine wasn't running but key was on.

Summer project I guess!
 
So looking at the diagram, shouldn't be to hard. Snip the brown/white wire on the load control relay. The piece of that wire that goes to the relay should be grounded, the other half taped off.
 
Maybe wire up a small driving light on the sled that you can turn on anytime? Cheap and easy.
 
get a nice small led light and power it straight from the battery thorugh a fuse and a switch.. Use a dual swith so you can have one looking backwards and one forwards.. you never know where you need the light..
 
We put these on last fall and ran them all winter (2 sleds over 3,300 miles) :

They don't look like much but---they're nearly as bright as our HID headlights! --750 Lumen each. We wired direct to the battery with a switch on the handlebar. Makes a HUGE difference for night riding, lights up every little bump in the trail. They're LED's so you can leave them on with the engine off for quite a while. We left them on for an hour at breakfast one morning and the sleds started with no problem.

Be sure and buy the 20 degree beam angle if you get them and aim them about 20 feet out to the ground, otherwise you'll blind everyone coming at you.

When I got my HID's I couldn't believe the amount of light difference from the stock headlights. When you add these with the HID's, it doubles the amount of light out in front of your sled.
