Hey All. I have a 2008 Apex GT. I was hoping I could make it to the end of the season before getting it rebuilt but my rear ohlins has lost its charge (no clicks on the rebound damper), and I am planning on doing a pretty decent ride this Saturday (~300km). Am I in for a world of pain?
Is there anything I can do to help the situation out? change spring compression? Is there a basic shock that Royal distributing sells that could work (they are in my city)?
Thanks!

just find a used KYB shock for the rear and throw that into it to finish the season. Should be a ton of parts availble on kijiji or try Total Recreation in the Barrie area or Bent Toys in North Bay

From what I've heard, you don't want to ride with the shock in that condition either. It damages the shock beyond repair.

Thanks guys. I will check out those places. Do I need to provide any spec info when requesting a KYB shock? length, eyelet diameter, etc? I noticed there were a few used Ohlins EC and KYB RA shocks on Kijiji (from APex's). The sellers want 300-400. Does that seem right?

i just checked kijiji and there's a guy in Sudbury wanting $475 for a whole rear suspension with the ohlins in it. it's a 136" but i would buy it and sell the rest of the suspension to get some of your money back. not sure if the shock is good or not but it's in your back yard.

just measure the one you have or just take it with you when you go look for a used one. you have to take it out anyways.

dont drive with the ohllin's in that shape you will destroy the shock there must be some one in your area to rebuild that shock it does't take long to rebuild.

there must be some one
I figured there would be too. But the ATV/sled suspension shop Pro-tech powersports informed me they don't have the parts for an Ohlins rebuild (they were the shop that charged the N2 and sent me on my way). There is a shop 4-5 hours away (you can ship them the shock) that rebuilds and revalves, SHocktec.
I called the local kijiji guy with a complete used Apex skid (450), he has someone coming to look at it tonight. If I cant get that I will pull the shock off and bring it to Royal Distributing to see if they can get me something to fit. they sell kimpex gas shocks in a variety of flavors for ~100-150$.
If that doesn't work, I guess I will put it back on the sled, run it for the weekend and destroy the shock and my back. I can buy a replacement shock in the off season, as well as physio.

I'm not sure I would run on a bad shock limp back yes. Its like driving a truck with a flat tire. bad shock bad back but I'd be even more worried about track track clips possibly of spearing track. Good luck in your search be safe out there.

i would loan you one if i had one laying around. all i have is proaction rear skid shocks.

Thanks maim! Just to follow up, I did about 350 km (according to GPS) that Saturday. rode from long lake up through the wolf loop and back. there were some serious whoops by Raft lake/Kivi but further north it was magical. When I got back I noticed my Ohlins had severed the wire at the connector, and had lost all its oil. There was no function in the shock (you could compress it easily and it didn't extend). Surprisingly I didn't find the ride that bad lol. But I guess I have no clue on what a good ride feels like..
I packed it up and shipped it to Frank at Shocktek. In a few days he cleaned, rebuilt, and revalved it all for ~90$ (120 with taxes and shipping). You can't even compress that thing on the bench, and the clicks on the rebound damper are back! I soldered a new pigtail connector for the EC wire https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00UFICM5I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Can't wait to test it out!
