Hi Guys,

I am going to take my 05 Warrior and 07 Attak GT to the dealer to have end of year maintenance done. In regards to the track - is it better to have them adjust it to spec or leave loose for the summer storage period? Does it hurt the track to have it tightened to spec so it is ready to go in the fall? I am slowly learning how to do things so dont feel comfortable doing some things as of yet.

Thanks!

This will be one of those questions with multiple opinions, and everyone will be right.

I have never loosened any of mine for storage in almost 30 years of doing this, and have never had a track that needed replacement.

I do recommend you store the sled with the track elevated to prevent any moisture buildup underneath and prevent lugs from flattening over time due to the weight. I feel it is also smart to rotate it by hand maybe once every month or two so it doesn't get too much memory from being locked in one position. But even if you skip that step, it will likely be just fine next winter.

Thanks!

Craze - Thanks for all that you do on this website! I have never seen someone as thorough as you in all of your answers. I appreciate all of your information and your dedication to this sight!

The only thing ive ever done for storage is..

1# CLEAN THE CRAP OUT OF IT

2# Spray the track and suspension with armorall

3# start and run the engine every 2-3 months (allowing it to warm up) This keeps oil cerculated in the engine and the battery charged up!

I put the sled up on the coasters and put the cover on .. thats it..

What about the mice? A plastic sandwich bag and an elastic over the tailpipes.

A plastic bag and elastic band will NOT keep mice out - just let you know when they've actually gone through. Mice will gnaw through an inch of plastic to get where they want, particularly gas tank lids into skunky gas - they really like that. If you want to keep the mice out of the exhaust, use STEEL.

Nice thing about mice and the crap that they drag into your exhaust..

IT BURNS... LOL

Steel wool will keep the mice out of places you dont want them to go. I also heard that powdered lime on the ground stops them also. Probably burns their little feet and if you have ever sniffed some it takes y0ur breath away. We use it in the drilling mud on oil rigs. When the derrickman mixes it some is blown around and out the mixer exhaust it is nasty stuff. Just thought I would mention that before someone thinks I tried to sniff it with a little spoon. LOL :-o
