Hi guys,
Hope everyone's having a great season! My 2007 Apex dies out occasionally with no apparent rhyme or reason. Always occurs when off throttle and always re-starts without too much trouble. Probably related too, is an inconsistent idle. sometimes too high, sometimes too low (ranges from 1000 to 1850 rpm + or- )
Any ideas?
Engine is stock and has over 13000 hard miles on it!

My erratic idle was caused by a pin hole leak in one of the vacumn lines behind the TB. My particular one was the inside corner of the little hose going to the fuel pressure regulator. I had made up mine to swap everything out and found it when I all of the lines.

So, it appears the dying is probably unrelated ?kinger said:My erratic idle was caused by a pin hole leak in one of the vacumn lines behind the TB. I will check into pin hole next time I go to the UP (where my sled is)
Will there be any visable signs or rub marks?
thanks for the input

No mine just had a nice clean hole in it once I took it off and looked under neath it. I would have NEVER seen it if I wasn't taking all of them off in the first place.
The dying is related because a big enough vacumn leak and it will go lean and die. Get some carb cleaner and get the sled idling and spray it around the vacumn lines and see if it instantly goes higher at any one spot (this of course after a visual inspection)
Hopefully its aparent and easy to see for you!

Great Idea! Thanks, next time I go up north (where my sled is) I'll try that and post here.
Thanks
Thanks
Check your throttle position sensor. It might have a burn spot on it. The procedure is in the manual in the sticky

Well, got up north last week. Didn't check too deep into cause of problem.
Day one riding ended up with an exhaust do-nut failure, so off to Pats Yamaha it went.
When I dropped it off, Kip told me that intermittent dying and an erratic idle can by caused by the do-nuts. Never heard of that! After getting it back, It seems to be better. I was running out of ride time and only added a few hundred to the odo. But had no problems.
I will still take a close look at these suggestions from you guys when i perform season maintenance, or if a problem persists (hope not).
Thank's to all!
