I just got an 81 error which means the hand warmers are broke. Anyone else have te same issue? Is it a easy fix? I hate to loose my sled for days at a dealer to get fixed.

Any additional info would be great :-)

Thanks!

Common issue, of the element itself.. Try to schedule it in to your dealer so its only there for an afternoon? Convince them you know what the issue is, and ensure they have the parts before it goes in.

Sounds weird but sometimes you get that error when the battery is weak. Had this at the start of the season and I charged my battery and it went away. Does it turn over slow when starting?

Engine Turns over great. Battery is good. Went to the dealer yesterday. We hooked voltmeter to each element to get a ohms reading. Both grips were at zero meaning both shorted out. Kind of weird to have both short out at the exact same time. Hopefully have the parts in tomorrow. Over 500 dollars in parts alone. Thank you yes warranty

Its possible they didnt short at the same exact time. Mine did it twice last season. The second time was on a day we rode 160 miles. About halfway in the left handwarmer stopped working and then a while later the code came and they were both gone.

That is odd
My right wnet went off at lunch one ride and no error code. Rode it a couple more trips and then the code cam on and now both are dead. Even the control for the hand warmers does nothing. Almost think there is a fuse or something that may have blown but have not seen anything on the forum to indicate that.
We tested the right one and no resistance so that I think means its cooked. Havent check the left one but am going to order some new aftermarket ones in the hope that they last longer. I only have 2500kms on the sled so it is disappointing they burn out that quickly

Nope not a fuse. They are shot. My switch for them stopped working as well. What I found was that I ride aggressive and in holding the grips I was actually twisting them back and forth a little bit causing an element to break and short. Then the other one would follow suit soon after. Put on rsi grip tape this year and grips don't twist and on top of that completely wrapped heater in electrical tape before installing new grips

Just had same problem stopped for lunch thought right grip wasn't working well.... came out after lunch code 81 the switch don't work and 100 miles to get back home with no hand warmers..... have 400 mile trip planned for Friday hopefully dealer can come through...

yam has had this problem for years with no help for long term clients. thats why they sell rsi ones as upgrade and if you want to spend the bucks yamaheaters

dropping it off tomorrow morning hopefully this is covered by YES warranty.... if you have yamaheaters will that void warranty
