Just wondering about you guys, if you have had engine failures this winter on your 08 engines for any unusual reasons.
My block has 9300km on it and it has 2 cracks in it. The pistons are worn badly on the one side only, beside the other piston, just about glued to the cylinder wall, no scoring on the piston skirt otherwise, no sign of oil starvation. The engine did not knock before it died, only started sputtering like bad spark.

Can this block be welded and re used ? It is boosted with mcx 240 and revs to 86-8900 rpm, never revved to the 9300 rpm ''wall''.
Pics to come

you were probably running lean or had bad gas (not enough octane)

Did you run too much boost? More than the 240 kit is supposed to run?
Did you're wastegate hose freeze up and made it build way to much pressure? Do you have a boost gauge?

9000 km sounds way to little man.. Sorry to hear about it..

never an issue....something had to have happened on fueling...as in lean, or bad fuel as Woods said...

know LOTS of people running WAY more boost, and WAY more mileage and no issues...

Well, the machine shop said there are 3 cracks in the block near the bottom of the con rod area and more cracks inside the water jackets beside the pistons. 2 pistons wore out one area so bad they left aluminum piston melted on the sleeve. No explanation to this failure, I gassed it up with 94, no snow in the tank or air intake, Harvey suspects the secondary injectors stopped to make it run lean and fail. The engine has a tunnel cooler, the sled ran top notch that day, only the relay issue to bug me.

Detonation!! It doesnt always just show on the piston tops and whether it was lack of fuel or not enough octane, thats what it is.

Thanks, I think HYFLYR is right, just how. And thanks Roest for looking for engines too.
The Yamaha rep was in the dealer today, thanks for looking into it for me too.
