So I am just a we bit worried right now. Just drug my sled out of storage where it hasn't been touched since April. Put the Key in it to start and I got nothing. Sounded like the battery was dead. Turns out it was putting out error code 12. WTF?!?! it ran just fine when I put it away in the spring! I started taking plastic off and low and behold there was the one thing you didn't want to see. By the oil res. there was a big ol mouse nest. So I am thinking they had a little thanksgiving feast on my crankshaft position sensor wire. does this sound possible? Can anyone tell me or have a picture of where that senor goes into the block and where I could find the wire so I can check it out? Or if you think there might be a different internal reason. THanks much!!!!

Check all around were they ate dinner find and repair any broken wires, K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid. Chances are the sensor is fine there has got to be some eaten wires somewhere, repair and start using moth balls they work great. Little pricks had a feast on my mothers ATV this year, they love to eat the insulation off the wires, so reapir anything you find before turning the key again you don't want to ground anything that shouldn't be grounded.

as mentioned do NOT power the sled up again until you've inspected it completely and made repairs hopefully you will find the exact cause of the problem. it's too easy to damage electrical components this way. if you're at all handy with tools, plan on doing your own work and don't have a service manual get one.

Well got everything tore apart and looked over all the wires. No wires from the rectifier to the block were damaged by mice as I first thought. Got the ohm meter out and the only reading I was getting was like 38000 ohms??? that doesn't seam right. Someone else on the site said it should read around 500 ohms. Does this mean the circuit is open and the sensor is fried? Any insight in this investigation would be greatly appreciated.

i'm not versed in the apex but from what i've seen here the pickup coil is integrated into the stator. i believe most/all of the 3 cylinders have a separate pickup. there should be five wires coming out of the cover. three should be white and are the stator output. the other two will be the crank trigger (that's what it is). yes according to another post the resistance is supposed to be 500 ohms. make sure the leads themselves are in good shape and you have the meter set to the correct scale. don't know what meter you're using but make sure it's working properly before condemning the trigger. don't try to check the trigger without unplugging it from the ECU. check for proper resistance across the trigger leads and check them for short to ground. i would "think" if the circuit was bad it would be completely open and not show 38k but anything's possible. hope it works out for you imho putting the pickup in the stator is a bad design it should be servicable separately

fwiw the crank trigger on the vector calls for 336-504 ohms at 68° so 380 would be in range. don't know if the 4 cylinder is the same. if so make sure the meter you're using is set on (if it applies) and you're reading the proper scale

I had same problem on my apex and i had a replace stator as it is part of the stator all mine would do is crank over I'd say ya have to replace it too

So those of you whom did change out your stator, did any of you go with the new style? Or did you go and buy used 2008 or older? Apparently there has been a couple of updates/revisions on these.

Remember guys, many times rodent damage is a claimable loss for most comprehensive insurance policys, as well as some homeowners also. I once replaced a truck clutch that was ruined by a mouse nest, insurance paid for it all.
