In a place where it SNOWS every day
I had the opportunity last week in Northern Maine to try a RTX with one installed while the dealer was preforming my 500 mile checkup.

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe the difference with throttle response from my GT. At that time I had 650 miles on it, now 1300 and it is about the same. I nailed the throttle and it pulled like a freight train from the get go and it didn't miss a beat. I would let off and and hit it again and the ski's wanted to come off the ground! If it wasn't for the noise difference I would have had them install one on the spot. I found it A bit loud for riding near populated areas. We are loosing enough trail as it is in Vermont.

They claimed nothing else was done to the machine...

Get me something a bit quieter that preforms like this one does and I will buy it!

After 1300 miles I STILL love this machine!!!!

I agree with you. I have one on my machine. I talked with Aaron about this today and he will be working on a quiet version. He just does not want the performance to suffer. I am very happy with mine though.

Does anyone know the db's of the stock exhaust?

The Excell site rates theirs at 94.

Thanks,

-Moose

dba

i read that it 84 dba at 94 the exel is about twice the stk sound level. that a lot louder.

I think Aaron has these numbers on his website. I thought I read the stock exhaust is 89 and his is 93.

Moose, I don't understand. It had better throttle response than you sled, but then once you had 1300 miles on YOURs, YOURs was then the same for throttle response?

No that's not what he said. What I get from his post is when he road the RTX he only had 650 so he thought maybe his would get better. However at 1300 it's still the same as when he had 650.

Sorry for the confusion...

I meant to say that my sled had the same throttle response with both 650 and at 1300 miles. I put that in because I thought someone would respond by asking how many miles were on my sled and that the response would get better with more miles. I can't see where more miles would make that much of a difference.

I did a search and found this, I think it was the same sled I rode... I wish I had something to compare it too for top end.

My dealer has a rtx w/excell exhaust installed and we wanted to give it a try,but the packing was all lose inside and he was waiting for the new one to arrive, but we talked him into letting us test it against the clutched up gt with 1300+ miles and the driver only 150#,now i am 240 dressed and the rtx is stock clutching except cut helix and exhaust,we didn't know if the performance would be hindered w/out the packing in the muffler or not,but my guess is it is down on power w/out it,anyway we ran 1 mile at least down a sloppy rail bed,he could take me out of the hole and thru mid by 5 sleds and than i would peddle on by at least 5-6 sleds and run gps 103mph when the most he could see on his gt w/gps was 96mph not bad at all,and it pulls very hard,i think with the proper packing and a clutch kit it will make alot of happy people.. ;)!

oh, ok thanks guys!!

I too would like an Exhaust system, but I just want it to sound meaner, not louder!!

Fellas I field test the Excell exhaust and any new changes Aaron makes to the system. I can tell you the product is bullet proof and has definite benefits in the mid and top end. We are getting roughly 2 sled lengths over stock at max speed. I would describe the sound as a growly howl. The nice thing is that it exits directly behind you so you don't really hear much of it while running the sled. We have had really good on trail feedback regarding the sound level and quality of the fit and finish. If you guys have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Aaron installed his exhaust and ulmer stage two on my GT,the performance gain over stock was impressive.Better throttle response
pulls hard through the midrange. The decible readings they are giving
you are at w.o.t. The sled is definantly louder(but has a sweet sound)
but you can ride it quietly in populated areas by staying out of the
throttle.I am very satisfied with the system and the work Aaron and
his guys did for me.

Stock is 84 db, so 94 is quite a lot louder. Same here, get me one that is under 90 db and I'd be a customer as well.

Could your better feeling throttle response be simply coming from a raised engagement from the Clutch kit?

You guys heard the stock exhaust on your sled lately? I let my girlfriend drive mine around the yard the other day, and I'll tell you, stock is not that quiet!!

87gtNOS, our clutch kit keeps close to stock engagement. It engages around 3600-3700 rpm.

That's good to know Allen, as I have seen Heelclickers coming in at near 5000rpms!!
