Just a note for those that have or are going to install an Excell pipe with no other mods including using the stock airbox, Mine was filthy rich on warmup and during low speed running. During warmup, it would almost want to stall from all the fuel. While running, it felt rich. I took out 15 units of fuel on the pod and it cleaned it up good. Probably could go another 5. It ocassionally pops on decel. Nearest I can figure, the pipe improves scavenging, and without the increased airflow of a modded box, it runs rich. I'm sure a modded box will make it go lean.

That's interesting because Hauck sells a package that includes his pipe and Fuel Controller. From what I heard, I thought the Apex is lean on the bottom. It also seems strange that usually when you give a 4 stroke more flow from exhaust, it makes it run lean.

I am having a simular issue with my set up. I have the hauck exhaust and fuel accel, air box mod. I have my settings on the fuel accel at 2 / 3 / 5 / and 1. It seems to be running rich at the low to low mid as well. Just going to have to dial her in, need to be careful, rather run a little rich than a little lean.

It isn't the flow causing the condition. I believe there is a lack of total flow through the engine without the bigger airbox mods. I believe that the carb signal (in this case throttle body) created by the tuned stock airbox is tuned for the factory pipe and the amount of sound wave scavenging it creates. By not installing a modded box, more fuel stays in the engine per intake stroke. There is no doubt in my mind the sled was very rich. Fuel economy backed up my feelings. I took out 15 units on the pod and it cleaned it up a lot. The engine runs real good, and it doesn't load up on initial startup. Its still a little rich, but thats safe. My plans will be for Allens box mod. I would have it now, but my Harley engine build got in the way.
