Leave the power valve/exup assembly in, just be sure that it is set properly. If you want a little more power and not much more noise buy a Bender muffler. It's not a cheap unit, but it's the only unit I've seen that didn't hurt air flow and drop horsepower and isn't obnoxiously loud either.
