I have been having problems with lots of lag lately and poor runing(rich feeling) Today I discovered that one of the exhaust flex pipes that come out the back of the motor is cracked.I phoned my mechanic and he said he has heard of at least two more that have done this.Up until now I have never heard of this happening so keep it in mind! Of course you wont even have these things if you have a front mount kit cause you have a new manifold. Gotta get this thing fixed cause I got lots of booked sledd'n holidays soooon!!

Yah! we were spraying wd40 on all connections to see if the motor would rev up if I had a leek and noticed the exhaust leak sound. Also the wd40 thing seemed to work, when I sprayed the blowoff valve thats mounted in the intercooler the motor did seem to rev up but at idle I think it is normal for the blow off valve to be open ...right? Never had problems with this sled till I had the b.o.v. installed ,hmm? Hopefully I could scoop a couple of these flex exhaust pipes from some of my freinds with front mounted turbo's that wont need them anymore. Freinds! do you copy?!! Hello!

I just fixed the same problem with the flex connector. I had a guy weld it up to get me by while I waited for a new one.

Had the same problem. One completely cracked all the way around. Yamaha covered under warranty. Just a pain in the a$$ to change. Sounds much better now.

Caution....Don't put the stock junkers back on, they'll just break again. Someone has better ones out there, just not sure who.

I just had one of these expansion pipes break as well. Sounded just like I had an exhaust leak on a car, rough & rumbling. Did not seem to affect performance, though. I think it just started to leak as there was just a small area of black on the heat shield liner. It's definitely a pain to replace, though... it look like I've disassembled most of the sled!! I'm replacing it with a stock piece from the dealer as I could not find a source for a better aftermarket part.

Its not that bad to do, I didn't even remove bars, just loosened tank cover, removed seat and slid tank back, then you can get at it. Its probably the one on the right.?

Yes, it is the one nearest the brake rotor. I just completed a 425 mile ride in northern Minnesota, of which about 300 miles were BAD stutter bumps. I think that moved things around a lot (my back thought so too).
Why is this one the most common one to go?

A turbo introduces quite a bit more heat to the manifold than a NA motor does. So it is really no surprise that the turbocharged engines are having problems. There are better flex joints, or go for the CRP unit.

Could somebody please enlighten us as to where better flex pipes can be found? Also, what are CRP units?

On my '03 RX-1 ER I can hear a noise from the front of the tunnel that sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Can this be a cracked exhaust flex pipe? And my sled is not even turboed yet..... with 6500 kms/4000miles on it. Still waiting for MCX-kit to arrive.

The Flex pipes bolt onto the motor and extend through the tunnel and make the connection to the exhaust system...BBY
