Put sled away for year and noticed a significant rattle noise coming from under tank/seat. Went under tunnel grabbed exhaust and pulled tight and noise seemed to fade, is this what I think it is, bad donuts or cracked header?
Sled just turned 4k this year, other reports on here seem to say at about 5k-8k they go out, but there is always an exception!

Yep, donuts are shot. Maybe not all of them, but some of them.
Mileage doesn't seem to affect when they go out, but riding style does.
My '06 Apex (which I bought late this season) had 4300 miles when I bought it. It had a slight airy/fuffy sound at cold idle, I knew what it was. I replaced the donuts the day after I bought the sled. Two looked decent, one was gone, & one was almost gone. Once again, this was at 4300 miles.
Now, two other Apex's that I know of personally had donuts shot before 3,000 miles. Both of those sleds are ridden pretty aggressively.

Yep, figured that was the problem, already ordered set of four and also muffler gasket (2) that go onto the single exhaust, don't know if I need them but just want to be sure once everything is apart.
Picked up the donuts for $11.42 apiece @ Babbits online, best deals I have found for OEM parts.

Mine went buy buy at 4300 miles. Riden pretty hard, mostly smooth trails.

When the seals go then the clamps get loose and rattle like you describe.
About 3000 miles before all of mine needed replacement. Covered under warranty by my dealer.
When you reinstall the parts most people (including my dealer) grind down the "stop" on the clamps so that the clamps can be tightened more.

My dealer tells me that the donuts should be routinely replaced every other year. I just had my done for the first time; $180 out the door. Do not mind this type of preventative maintenance. If fact, i had had the sliders and two wheels replaced as well. I did my own oil and chaincase, good to go next season.
