i just took my sled out for a test ride last night and noticed a lot of popping in the exhaust. it starts, idles and runs fine. i just bought the sled and i'm not sure what jets are in it but it has aftermarket intake and exhaust. i put fresh gas and some seafoam in it about a month ago. do i just need to run some more gas and seafoam through it or does it sound like a jetting issue?

forgot to mention that it only happens when letting off the gas.

just a thought: i'm on a forum for my motorbike (inline 4) and i think i remember a similar problem that a guy had with an aftermarket exhaust. if i remember correctly one of the suggested remedies was bigger pilot jets. does that make sense?

My bet is on exhaust donuts or loose donut clamps. You may have to take a little metal out between the two halves of the clamps to get them to clamp tightly.

So now that i have the exhaust out, how in the heck do you get it to line back up so you can clap it back together.

Sometimes you have to take the flex pipes out, put in the rest of the system, then put the flex pipes and new donuts back in.

My donuts were questionable with thie mileage on them right after I bought my sled used. I decided to not change them and they ended up blowing out on my and the bellow pipes then wore holes in both of my $350 titanium Y-pipes. Long story short change them before they end up costing you money. You can do it by loosening up the muffler and the y-pipes from their bracket under the gas tank. I then used a large screwdriver and gently compressed the bellows enough to get the new donuts on. It helps to have a second person pushing on the bellows and you installing the donuts. The Y pipes will only back up so far before hitting their mounting bracket. If you are lucy enough to no round off the allen head bolts, replace them with Stainless. I used a regular hex head and some antiseize on it. I should not have an issue getting these out in the future.

I have a stock exhaust on my '03 Rx-1 M and she also makes pops sometimes when decelerating. On I think it was three occasions she also made a decent backfire and had a very short/quick drop of power while it happened, and this was when I nailed the gas to go through a drift bank and up hill one time. Dealer said it has something to do with the exhaust but I can't remember what he said. I have to ask him again and fix it but after what SMOKNZ said about allen bolts down there I don't know if I want to do it myself. I freakin HATE allen bolts.

Yah, ... Altitude even affects this tendancy to pop. If you are running a bit lean, she pops. And, ... one size up in the pilots makes sense to correct a very slight lean at low to mid range. You may even get a rid of the popping by turning out the pilot screws 1/4 turn more than two turns from the bottom.

Im having the EXACT problem on my '03. I have the ecp kit, larger jests, and the rumble pack. I just had the carbs synced as well. It sounds like a bag of popcorn in the microwave when i let off. I replaced all of my exhaust dohnuts, and still the same. Its actually frustrating, because is is way more apparent with the louder exhaust! :o| :o| :o| I dont know what else to do! :die
