Hi everyone,
Over the past month I have been reading alot of posts in pereparation on extending my 08 apex gt 121 to a 144. In addition to this I would like to put a 1.5 inch cross over track, possibly studing as well as I ride on lakes and trails alot. I am doing this as I am tired of getting stuck anytime I go off trail. Not looking for any serious off trail, just something to have a bit of fun. I am not looking for top speed but just simply a cross over sled. I have heard a few things in regards to stretching an apex. Some people are sugesting not to go longer then 136 as the geomoetry of the suspension is changing to much and it makes it for a horrible ride. Others say it can be done. I am planning on putting 8 tooth extros in addititon to this as some recomend running the track loose to avoid suspension binding. Now my questions to whoevere is willing to provided me with any info is:
1. can a stretch to a 144 be done without comprimising the ride too much?
2. if I go with 8 tooth extros, will I have enough clearance to stud a 1.5 inch track?
Any ideas, opinions and info would be greately appreciated!

Don't know if this will help you much, I have 144 XTX's and love them, would not go any shorter, but they came that way as far as the skid go's, so not to sure how it will effect your ride when streching yours. I think you will be alright on clearance though, I run 1.75 backcountry tracks on both mine with no issues.

I never have done it but I know that the forces will change drastically going from a 121 to 144, Not sure the geometry will handle that kind of change with the mono shock.

Your stock drivers will work with 1.5" track. Have rode a apex in the 144" with the longer rails and didnt care for it. I went with a 136" rail and set the skid back to get 144". With a setback its the best of both worlds more track on the ground for trail ride and a better attack angle for off trail riding.

Man Apex 06, your ripping me apart, going 144 or 136 relocating144.
Sitting and waiting for paypal to pay for muffinworks kit and this comes up and hount ya again
sell me why i shouldnt go 144 rails instead for 136 relocate to 144. Dont se alot of people doing that but i kinda agree with you!
For exampel i run a turbo with about 340hp and loves boondocking and wheelies as long as i wish. What i want from a stretch is
better floatation
better comfort on the trail
A stop to the digging it does in deep snow if you stop and wanna go.
I spend alot of time on packed trails to get to the sweetspots.
also not sure if im going a 1.75 back country or a 2.0 challenger extreme and if i dont like it cut down it to 1.75. Im looking for relability and traction on packed trails and deep powder.

Yes I have of some guys that have done the set back. I did in deed contemplate that option. By changing the aproach angle can I expect drastic changes in the way the sled handles on the trail? Would studing a 1.5 inch track in a set back be a possibility? Is anti stab wheels a must in a set back option? Going with a set back would give me a reason to get new and lighter brackets....
Thanks
Thanks

I too am interested in home brewing an XTX too. I am thinking of an AC Crossfire skid. Might even start with an Rx-1 since they are cheaper.

I have found a better attack angles is that on bump trails it's not as a steep of,a hit to the front if the rails. Making for a nicer ride, and with more track on the trail more hookup. It will make more push then a 121", I dont have a hard time ride it on trails at all. And for offtrail it will out ride any aoex with just longer rails do to the better angle of the track.
I have not had a anit-stab kit in it yet but will be putting one in this summer.
The one Apex I rode with just the longer rails had a very poor ride on trail, and off it still did not get up on time of the snow like my sled can.

I cant say on wheelies this sled never was a big wheelier.

i`am waiting for an oft 144 extension kit right now for my 06 apex i think the 6 degree tip up will help alot on groomed trail it shouldn`t handle to terrible if the trailing end of the rails is not flat on the trail but tipped up slightly also i have had the heavier spring and a revalve already done and for my self i`am thinking on running an ice ripper track ,with a pre-studded track the weight will be much less then studding the old way should help with the rotating mass. the big issue right now is the kit has been ordered from oft for almost a month now but no sign of it yet and oft does not seem to answer any of my e-mails?jr13322 said:Hi everyone,
