Has anyone extended the stock xtx rails, I was thinking since I would only be going out west once or twice a year i would like to go to a 152 or 155 then change it back for home

Sure would look funny with half the track off the ground...don't know how strong it would be too.

Or I could stay with a 144 and add 1.75 backcountry track, would that work well enough?

I have been to the mountains a couple times with my 1.75 and lets just say it does not stay on top of the snow. Your best bet would be getting a 2" Camoplast CE. It fits fine with the tunnel protectors removed.

I was not real happy with the 1.75 out west, great for home here in MN, but always found myself stuck out west! I would try 2"

A backcountry, lower gearing and boost and you ready to ride

How so the 153 and 162's have tipped rails.
Go with a 2" track if you want to keep your protectors in you can notch the track.
