With the new season just around the corner, just thinking about snowmobiling brings a smile to my face. I thought it would be entertaining to hear and learn about some of our favorite riding areas and what makes it special to you. Who knows, we may all get some ideas of where we might want to explore next. Post some pics if you can so we all can enjoy.
With the intro over, I guess I'll start. I live in WA state and enjoy riding here, but my favorite place would be the trails around West Yellowstone. The variety of groomed trails can lead from flat open fields to elevations of 8000' to 10,000' with fantastic views. Wildlife spotting is a bonus! We'll be heading there over the X-mas holidays. Nice pictures. I will be heading to West Yellowstone the end of January for a week. We are off trail riders though but your pictures give me a good idea of what to except. I normally ride the UP of Michaign but wanted to do something different this year, basically looking for really deep snow haha. Any places I should check out in West Yellowstone?

Thank you. The town of West Yellowstone is not so big that it's pretty easy to explore and you can ride your sleds everywhere in town except for the two main roads. We actually opt to stay at places (VRBO) that are 7 miles west of town when planning our trips. We find it easier for parking and the trail system is accessible right from your door. I'm going to leave you with some links that may be useful to you. Also be aware that you will more than likely need to register each sled for both Montana and Idaho because the trails weave back and forth over the continental divide. Two Top mountain, a favorite ride, is a prime example of this. When you do register, ask for the trail maps, they're free. The trail system itself is very well marked.
Another consideration would be to arrange a guided ride in Yellowstone National Park during your stay. This is accomplished through some of the local businesses in town. They must be guided and you need to rent their sleds as they are considered (BAT) Best Available Technology. When we tried it we were given Ski Doo 600 ACE snowmobiles to ride. We had a blast that day.
I'm a trail riding guy myself with not a lot of info for mountain riding, so I'm going to leave you a link to a forum called "SnoWest" This forum is primarily dedicated to the Pacific Northwest region and I'm sure you can get some info for areas to ride. Also look at "Island Park" area in Idaho. It's southwest of West Yellowstone and not very far.
Here's a couple links: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd492148.pdf

Let me know if there is any additional info you need. I"ll be glad to pass it on. I think you're gonna have a great time. Trail Traveler

My favorite is where my cabin is in NE lower Michigan (Oscoda). The trails are smooth and a very low volume of traffic, due to we are a long way off I75 which is where the majority of people go, easy on, easy off.
We do not get lake affect unless comes out of the east, so we have to get system snow but when we do it is awesome. I have owned my place there for 20 years and have done some serious riding, towards Grayling, St Helens, Mio, Lewiston, Alpena etc. We can be out all day and see maybe 150 sleds all day on a Saturday in our area and with low traffic volume our trails rarely get bumpy.
The last two seasons we were shut out and had to trailer to the UP, rode during the week to avoid wild/crazy traffic and early afternoon moguls. We have covered the whole eastern UP from Munising all the way to the Soo, down to St Ignace and over to Curtis etc. the last three seasons. This year so far we have been getting snow again in our area and back on the trails again!
