im switching my track out to an intense track full clip, before the season. i am going to install extros while i have everything apart. i was also going to put a new chain in and drop my top gear to a 22 tooth. my question is if i go to an 8 tooth driver instead of a 9, would i have to change sprocket size? anyone know what the gear ratio would be? an 8 tooth driver woud lower my final gear ratio. correct? any advantage with an 8 tooth besides clearance? or should i just stay with a 9 and lower gearing in the chaincase. thanks all

I would like a bit of info on this too.. I put wahl bros. 8 tooth drivers in my apex last year just after I dropped my top gear from 24 to 23. I think it's too low now, it is setup really good for racing, but I lost a noticable amount of top speed, I think with the addition of a clutch kit this year I will have plenty enough pull to go back to the 24 tooth top gear to get my top speed back.

stock gear are 24/38=1.58 to1
changed gear to 23/38=1.65 to1
going from 9 tooth to 8 tooth driver=.2
If you go to 26/38=1.46
This will get you very close to your 23/38 gears

So your saying I would have to go to 26/38 with my 8 tooth drivers, to go back to stock gearing?? I think I would be happy then going to 24 or maybe even 25 top gear.

You would be close to 23/38 stock is 24/38

Stick with 9 tooth drivers if possible. Theoretically a 8 tooth driver is less efficient than a 9 tooth because the track has to bend around the 8 tooth at a sharper angle, therefore using more energy. As far as real world power loss goes, I am sure the difference is minimal and probably not even noticable, but I really don't know. Obviously there will be a difference in the gear ratio between the two driver sizes though.

stayin with 9 tooth. waitin to see what the price is with yams 2010 extros. already ordered my track, chain, and 22 tooth sprocket. thanks all

Attached is a gear ratio chart on 9 vs 8 tooth drivers.
