Went out on saturday(1-31). to test out the new to me 03 rx 1 mountain. no problems all day. untill on the way back to truck think the carbs started icing up.
It is not my mm700 but with a little more tweaking i can see it being just as fun. hey i spent $$$$$ in mods on the mountain max. i have already added bars, risers,MPI rear bracket(a-arms on the way).and ohlins on the rear.
after getting stuck and rolling the sled over i found that the gauge pod does not like that at all. and WOW does the snow really pack inside the cowling.
i love the power of the sled........and the sound is great(stock exhaust). handled like a champ on the trail.

Hey,
My name is Justin, whats yours?, I am from Wasilla, Ak. I also own an RX1. The reason you are feeling like your carbs are icing up is that you have so much snow packed under your hood that you are sucking it into you air box, and causing the filter to ice up you can pull the top of the airbox off and thaw the foam filter out on your exhaust and put it back in and you are running much better. Also there is a plastic cover on the front bulkead of your rx1 held on with 6 phillips headed bolts that you can pull off to clean out the snow easier that restricts airbox flow. I know some setups to get them running great. Also know a few free mods you may want to know. I am living in Aleknagik 30 min from Dillingham a small fishing town in Bristol Bay taking care of a marina and selling fuel. You can call me at 1-907-842-5988, I love helping people get there stuff running awesome there should be no comparison to a mtn max these Rx1s are way better properly setup. later, Justin

Hey Justin, Drop the tips for all of us. I have an 05 that I have been having nothig but trouble with this year first was the K&N's freezing. Now I have the stock air box packing up with snow.
I dont have the removable flap up front that you are refering to. Does this cover the area of the tool box?
any pics of what youve done to keep the snow out?

Snow intake
One here are a couple things I did, I siliconed areas that I saw light coming through up in nosecone area.
Also you know that little metal flap that hangs off the front of the hood that the tabs always bend from snow pushing on them, I took a piece of 1/8 in plastic and riveted it to the part of the sled right below the flap the one you can pull of with 6 screws so that it overlaps the hood and that keeps the snow out of that hole.
You can cut a piece of vinyl like seat cover material you can get at a fabric store to the size of your vent on above your toolbox and also the one that is above your clutches if your in deep powder. These things really help in deep snow I was going to also put prefilter material over the intake on my airbox and add bullseyes or similar in the top so that even in the rare chance that the airbox would ice up I could still draw air but I have not done that yet.
I dont have any pics of this I think this site should have a members individual garage site that you can browse around and look at other members garage pictures of what they have done to their sleds.
You can always call if you would like some more tips on clutching, cheap things you can do to lightweight or whatever about sleds, 1-907-842-5988
