I have been reading tons of threads over the last few months trying to pick a sled that will fit my riding style and with the models that yamaha has made scince 2006 and the changes they have made on them it is hard to pick through the material and get a good judge of what to get. I am not really concerned with ripping through the trails like the devil is chasing me, but when i come out of the corner i want to feel the bars pull, but if i come up on a corner i want to feel confident that it will get me around it. Also i would like the capability of off trail riding without feeling like pulling a rock through a mudhole. I love the powerband of a 4-stroke so going to another brand with a 2-smoke is out of the question. i keep going to a nytro xtx, but how bad does the 144 hinder the trail riding. (i am sure someone will mention searching the forums like always, but trust me i have).

a 144 would be fine on the trails, heck i find my 153 mtx to be just fine as well. it would be nice to have the 144 for when you do dive off the trails!

I went from a 2007 Phazer to a 2011 Nytro XTX and I love it. The Phazer is no comparison to it. It handles very well off trail, and runs just fine on trail. Contact a few dealerships in your area... deals will be coming soon I'm sure.

pretty big wieght difference compared to the nytro, does the wieght of the apex make it hard to throw around off trail and through the corners? i am about 180 pounds.

I would suggest -- you have to ride them for yourself. Somebody somewhere should let you test drive theirs if you explain what you're up to.
My son had a Nytro mountain (153) that (to me) rode like a bread truck. His buddy bought a 09 Nytro XTX and I rode that --IMHO it sucked, lousy suspension when compared to my 06 Attak. My son got rid of his Nytro and bought a 07 Attak -- he said it's like driving a Corvette compared to the Nytro. It wasn't how long the track is, it was the Nytro in general.
Bottom line is some guys love the Nytro and the way it rides, but my son and I can't stand it... and his buddy... well lets just say when we traded sleds for a few miles... he wasn't real happy any more about buying the Nytro.
Don't flame me for the comments guys, it's just my opinion.

Friend of mine bought a '09 Nytro XTX this season. Mid-January, group of us rode in Northern WI (St. Germain, Boulder Junction, Hurley, etc.) which consists of forest roads and also lots of tight, through-the-woods terrain.
One section of VERY tight twisties and hills ran for around 4 miles, and you had this sequence of riders leading, front to back:
-Doo 600 Carb MX-Z (~170 lb. rider)
-Nytro XTX, 144-inch length (~190 lb. rider)
-2009 Phazer GT (me) (~160 lb. rider)
Now, all 3 of us were riding hard, as hard as we could staying on our side of the trail. We were all very evenly matched. I lost sight of the Nytro maybe twice after some straights where he really hit it, but got back in sight on the next series of turns.
When I get on the Nytro after the Phazer, I immediately notice three things:
-The steering is heavy.
-The clutch engagement is abrupt.
-The power and torque is fantastic and addictive.

Where do you ride? What kind of trails do you like?
Answer that and that will help you decide if 144 for you.
Great sled for UP type trails, but if you only ride or like a lot of tight twisty trails like in northern Wi, you'll probably wish for something else. Just my opinion.

Depends on what you are used to ... have a Phazer Mtn and then bought a Nytro - both took a bit of time to get used to and each is very different.
The Phazer is a hoot to ride is my first choice unless conditions are really great (lots of powder and a good base) then the Nytro takes over.
The Phazer needs lots of rider input - you cannot just "sit back" or it will ride you. If you ride it like a dirt bike it can be very capable and easy to flick ... little blip on the throttle and a little body english and the front end pop up and goes in whatever direction you want to.
When the base is good and lots of powder on top the Nytro acts / behaves a bit more like the Phazer but with a heck of a lot more torque.
My Nytro was a 121 but I found it to be useless off trail so stretched it to a 144 with a 1.75" backcountry track and now its far better.
I generally do not ride trails that are groomed or even wide - mostly very narrow woods trails and backcountry.

the type of trail i ride are all over the place where ever there is snow, tight twisties to a couple trips to the up a year, and now ventureing out west and off trail much more. phazer just doesn't cut it in the up and off trail for me, looking for more snort like my rx-1 had just without the 1-ton of sled that is also had

Rode the Nytro FX 1st at factory test ride & had a ball soooo much fun then rode Apex not as much fun transition to standing much more difficult. I had a serious discussion with myself & bought 07 Apex Attak GT non current. When Ntyro XTX was released went & test rode & I hated it felt weak & tinney missed the big 150 Apex from the get go.However off trail the Apex Attak sank like a rock & the Nytro XTX floated like a butterfly. Very different sleds & Nytro better banger & off trail crossover. If you want to be fastest thru the Twistys Nytro 121 is way to go. Test ride will tell all so give Pat's in Greenland,MI a holler & will let you test ride while snow is still good. I never buy without a test ride & willing to drive up 16 hours RT to avoid a big mistake. Good luck!

X2 Great points made here. Perhaps the Nytro is for you. Pat's in Greenland will let you test ride any of their sleds. Last year, my son even got to take a spin on a sled they had there with tons of extras including turbo - they were asking $19 grand for it.
