First impressions of the 2009 RS Venture GT

Thanks Hondo,

I respect your opinion, I am looking real hard at ordering an 09 and keeping my 05 for a back up. I have 10,000 trouble free miles on it.

Johnboy

You bet Johnboy, all the best in he decision making process.

I don't know what I'm going to do with my sled Grimm,

It won't be traded tough.

It's a one of a kind sled, and an engineers treasure trove for information.

It could also be used for display purposes.

The folks that I met and spoke with in Albany and Old Forge were very surprised at the number of miles on the original factory engine. A true testiment to the "Yamaha Advantage".

I have had discussions from several people that have shown interest to purchase the sled.

I may keep it, ride to 50,000, and use the GT as a backup! LOL... ;)!

That is a tough question Gamemaster,

I have my sled very comfortable with almost 35K on it, and a little over 50 miles on the new GT.

I could easily make the new GT very comfortable for myself as discussed before.

The new GT back rest has more adjustment than my shop built modified back rest for solo touring.

Leaning into turns is much easier on the GT.

The GT was a comfortable sled to ride. What I need to do is learn to ride and be more comfortable with the rider neutral position, as the GT is, rather than my old sit down couch position.

The GT is the future and the direction Yamaha is going.

I like the fact that the GT is not a radical change, but will be a change for me.

Hope this helps??? ;)!

How many inches higher do you sit then the old one? You said it isn't as rider forward, but how much lower do you sit then say an apex/vector?

Probably not a good comparison:

The new GT is built on a Delta Box II chassis. Just a guess, I would say 2 inches higher. Comparable to an Apex LTX in height.

What sled do you ride Gamemaster?

Just a suggestion Hondo... Why not wait until 2010 and make sure there are no bugs with the new engine? I mean, hell, what's another 10,000 miles on the 05 gonna hurt. Just an idea.

Reading my mind...

Concur, The 06 Venture's and newer models were all improved.

Having said that, the new GT is a very impressive and capable machine as is. Yamaha has done their homework.

The motor should not be the weak link, since the motor is the "Yamaha Advantage".

I also would like to put 50K on the 05 machine.

The only way to do that is to ride it. ;)!

I'll tell ya, I'd rather freeze than be seen behind that windshield. One other thing I am a little bummed about is the fact that the rear seat is not removable. Did a trip to Hulbert this year on my 08', removed the seat and backrest and installed Yamaha's bag that fits in there, it was awesome. With the smoked vector windshield, SLP powder pro's, no mirrors, back seat or backrest, I almost felt like a man on that barge. Hopefully the 09' will be at the Novi show next week so I can see it for myself.

This is true asphaltkitty,

My riding gear isn't fashion plate by any stretch; it's gortex; it's oversized for layering; and it's functional in the rain to being fairly comfy even at minus -25 deg F.

Give me a big screen.

I too was hoping the rear seat would come out! ;)!
