I was told not to run the original oil for very long. I've got 220 miles on the sled and I'm going on a 5 day trip after Christmas. Should I do the oil change before or wait till I get back. I guess you don't want the breakin oil running all season, I just don't know when I should do it.

Most of the guys on this site are going to tell you to change it after the first twenty miles. Personally I would change it now as well, you need to get all of the "break in" particles out of the oil as soon as possible. No need for the extra wear and tear.

i'd wait until the 500 mile cause you might have more particles until its broken in properly

You can always take the stuff you need on your trip.. When you reach 500 miles stop on the trail and change it.----------------------------------------------------------pause--------------------------- "SORRY".. I'd change it now and do a complete check of everything before the trip... Peace of mind.. MM.

just ride another 300 miles before your trip

I think I'll go ahead and change it. Snows melting here so I doubt I'll get a chance to ride untill I go north. I hope to put alot on it up in the UP so I don't want to think about the particles in the oil. I definatly don't want to deal with it while on the trip. Thanks for the input everybody.

I just reached 500 miles on the Black Lite today, my dealer has a house full of sleds to put together and won't be able to service until next week.
I am planning on changing the oil and filter tomorrow, here in the hangar.
The manual says 500 miles, I would follow with the thought that if it was better to change early, the manual would say so.
You are in a bit of an unusual spot, going on a long trip and all.I agree you should change before IF you are gooing to reach the 500 mile mark AND would be unable to change it when you do reach it. I would say absolutely no to a trail side oil change.
Enjoy your trip and make sure to post pics!!!!

My dealer said it was better to be a little early than a little late.

I'm holding one in my hand, I'll be changing oil tonight -- If I can figure out how. I'm still wondering were the spark plugs are

taking it apart to do the oil isn't bad at all, the apex/attak is way harder

that filter looks like it will be tough to get a wrench on. Let us know how it goes.
