Greeting to all!
I was finally able to get my first 100 mile break in ride done this weekend here in Northern MI. So as I was taking it fairly easy on the machine (trying to keep it under 6000 RPM is not easy on this beast!)
Overall it ran very well, however, I did notice that with just having the throttle cracked to keep the machine going around 20/25 mph, so like 4000 rpm’s, there was a growling diesel rattle sounding noise coming from the exhaust side of the engine compartment? There was also the normal engine and drivetrain sound familiar to me from my Nytro as well. (It was not the infamous clutch rattle either) I wouldn’t say it’s an alarming noise, but I’ve never heard it before on my other 4 strokes.
Is this a normal sound?
At higher rpm and speeds the sound goes away and it’s just glorious power!
Regards,
Steve

Doesn’t seem to come from the clutch side and it doesn’t seem like a ‘mechanical’ rattle?

Coming from the Nytro I'm sure you're familiar with what the clutch rattle is. Maybe check chain tension, make sure it was done proper during setup

My 19 has what sounds like track noise, that my 18 never had. The sort of noise that sounds like track clips hitting the rails, but everything visibly appears good. So I haven't pin pointed where this noise is coming from. Only at slow speeds also like yours.Greeting to all!

There is definitely a drone from this engine just like all my Yamahas had. Traveling at slow speeds does make it annoying and it almost sounds like you have a bad bearing in the suspension. Last year I traded sleds with a friend on his 1200 and it was very noticeable and the first thing he said was there is a growling noise coming from your suspension but you don't notice it at higher speeds.Greeting to all!

Thanks for the replies.
Pretty sure it’s not coming from clutch, also, mines quiet at idle (for now at least) And my Nytro clutch has always been quiet too, just lucky maybe...
I don’t believe it’s the track, definitely coming from the exhaust side of engine compartment, almost like from inside the exhaust/muffler?
I will check the chain tension, could be its flopping around a bit at low speed/load?
Could be the ‘drone’ noise I suppose too, I guess I was hoping it was a ‘normal’ noise since it’s a turbo engine, maybe BOV noise?
Will probably let the dealer hear it too since it’s so new.
Any other comment will be appreciated!

Try Running the track in the air on and lift and see if you can pinpoint it a little better before going to dealer

Maybe some part of the exhaust shielding is loose.

I know exactly what you mean Snowrider...all Winders have it. I noticed it on my 18 last year too. It’s an exhaust noise/vibration. Possibly..but not necessarily the shield. My shield is tight..it’s just in the exhaust note at that low rpm. Nothing to worry about at all..it’s normal. Just ride it and enjoy. Most of the time you will blast right past that rpm and not even hear it!!

Thanks again to all that have replied!
I will check all items described just to rule them out, and I also plan to take to my dealer and have them listen too.
I’ll be happy if it’s a normal sound, as I’ve stated, it doesn’t seem like a bad noise, just different then my other 4 stroke.

I've run the D&D modded exhaust for about 3000 miles , it sounds like it's getting louder does anyone know if they need to be repacked?

Greeting to all.
After checking all items suggested on this thread, I still had the noise.
While I would have sworn the noise was coming from the exhaust, I buzzed it up and down my street today with the clutch side cover off, and holy #*$&@! It’s definitely the primary rattling! Especially at 4400 rpm, sounds like it’s gonna explode! (Maybe a slight exaggeration...)
Dan, you were absolutely right! (Never doubt one of The Masters)
Beside the Hurricane shaft, is there anything I can do to reduce it? Even if it’s temporary?
(I’ll do the new shaft, but like most, I’m waiting to see what the reports are after a season)

Yeah same rattle we all either deal with or go to another primary, or stub shaft...
My OCD brain does not allow me to sleep contemplating these choices...lol
Stub shaft=Keep my clutching which I feel is working well, cheapest of them all. But will my primary end up coming apart down the road anyway?
TEAM=Needs new weights, spring, belt, and stock secondary then needs some work to make wide belt fit, Mike is trying this now. Slightly more cost then stub shaft only. But will the TEAM end up not lasting overtime either?
TAPP=Best solution as these go 10,000 miles before inspection. Proven to hold up to 1200 doos wicked up with big big HP. Uses 8DN belts(cheap 50$) and uses stock secondary, Can be swapped over to a new 998 when trading up. Only negative I see is cost...which is alittle over double the TEAM cost, and more like triple the stub shaft cost. But should work well for many yrs and sleds to come.
Maybe Ill sleep next summer after I decide...lol
