First ride on a turbo! OMG!!!

I dont think doo can compete in clutch category with big power....My machs always ran very hot belts with short life. The Yam clutches are the best for big HP. The SUK twin was so horrible I could not hold mine very long, so that in itself is one of the biggest reasons I would like the SW when going big HP. 1200 is strong and can handle ton of hP, but the heat would be big under the hood compared to the new SW reversed engine. SUK with front mounted turbo/exhaust mani was hot under hood and poor idea. Doo would likely be same, always fighting the heat. Yam invented the performance 4s and reversed the engine to keep ex heat out of engine bay, this remains the best design 4s config today IMO.

Dan
dan ,the new p drive will be able to handle what ever hp brp can make .like a late release turbo summit .

love the ride of the doo, it's a 2s, tilt wheel, heated seat and air ride, usb hub that puts the i tunes into the helmet for some megadeth etc. while rippin' it up, and it is fairly peppy, but quality and longevity made the winder a no brainer. not sure when I finally said enough, if it was the bad fuel pump when I got the sled new years eve 1000 miles from home and lost 30 days of the only snow we had, the NLA parts on my other 8 yr old doo, the blown air shock after 4 weeks, the top end recall, the heated seat that quit, or the coolant hose that rubbed the head bolt 100 miles from my truck in cochrane ON around moonbeam ON by myself at 2pm on a friday with the closest dealer over in hearst ON( great folks over there!!). or the fact that they are steering models and design to the crowd that does the mountain thing and want no parts of you after the sale. just glad I never got into wearing all the brand clothing. I'm thinking the loyal crowd I run with will see the light in pretty short order.

What he said ^^^^ I felt exactly the same as you " done dooin_ winder up" a few years back and still do. I had the same failures as you some the same some diffrent, I'm soooooooooo done with doo it's not even funny. I've had great experience with Yamaha sleds and I'm sure you will too.
Great handle by the way,

thanks for hollerin. i had a blast up there last year. loved moonbeam. my kind of town. population 20? lol. i was afraid the doo wouldn't handle my long days. i am a total junkie as my body isn't gonna hold up too much longer (autoimmune crap). so i squeeze every ounce of life out of it daily. i've ridden from 8am to 4am then rode to work at 6 am, same way on the hogs in the summer, over 19k this past summer. wife is gonna ride it and park her gtx. the ridin buddies even gave the doo gsx se a nickname, special ed.....i gotta get the studs, skid plate and usb hub on her saturday, then ye effin haw!

Did Yamaha sell any other models other than the SW?

Are you referring to how AC sold the Thundercat as a single short track configuration, and the rest are 9000, High Country 9000 etc? The Yamaha's are all Sidewinders with the three letter designation behind them. RTX, LTX, BTX etc, But unlike other years, the letters refer to mostly skid length, as there are other things that crossover like track lug height and ski width.

It's actually humorous that in other years there were three models, and you did you own mods if you wanted a different track, shocks etc. This year, you can customize each model so much that it's overwhelming. A buyer can bitch about not enough options or too many. Too many is good, but it had to be hell for dealers to order stock trying to assume what the customer wanted. Everyone wants something different.

Is that what you were asking?

I took it as it looks like everyone is buying sidewinders. Did they sell any Vipers, apex, etc

i had a 1200, didn't want to mod it so much, tried header and clutch, but was not that impressed, it was a far, very far cry from my stock Apex, so i imagine a Sidewinder, only thing close is a turbo 1200 but that is heavier and more expensive then a sidewinder without the warranty...if you want 4S power, there is now only one choice...

You're kidding right ??? The 1200 is 40-45 lbs lighter than the Sidewinder in its current state.. A turbo would not add that much weight... Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of the Sidewinder/Tcat, but am going to give it a season to see how it all plays out.. May very well be on one next year.

So how much more weight for a turbo? Different exhaust system? Air cooler? Git rid of 1 ply track for 2 ply track? Heavy duty gears and chain and the list keeps going on!

I already did the math.

Skidoo 1200 505lbs dry
Mpi kit 46lbs (on mpi website)

551lbs dry. This doesn't include any extras, motec or what have you.
Also factor in, drivetrain components.

Should weigh in appx and very close to a Sidewinder.

Now cost to build a 2017 skidoo and no warranty!!?? Pass.....

Skidoo 1200 is not 505 dry, I have owned 3 and weighed all of them. My 2016 129 with lightweight muffler and lithium battery with 1/4 tank of fuel it is 564lbs. My 137 Sidewinder with lithium battery and hindle muffler is 584 with 1/3 tank of fuel.

All these companies selling sleds lie about weights and such but the biggest dreamo meter(lie) is definitely home to the yellow ones. AKA speedometer. Put em on a GPS and compare?

we need wet weight with full gas... anything else is impossible to compare

So the 'Winder should be within 15-20 lbs of 129'' 1200 Doo. If i add 10 lbs for muffler, 6 for battery & about 35-40 for gas; I'd say it's safe to say my sled fully gassed & ready to ride is about 635-640 lbs.

You guy suck... I am so jealous! Currently sitting in my shed wrenching on an 07 Apex because the wife wouldn't let me trade it in on a Sidewinder :crap:

If your wife knows as much about sleds as mine does, then as long as the Sidewinder is the same color as your Apex she won't even notice that you bought a new sled! LOL!
