If BRP just sits out this 200+ HP segment....There will be alot of DOO guys coming over, and not just guys like me who are yammie lovers....lots of speedjunkies in DOO camp who want a factory 200+ that can be wicked easily/cheaply to 250 ish, will want to come play. BRP could have done this with their 1200 many yrs over, but kept laying back on their cash cow 2 smokes, and so that DT thread is good, and they must know there is huge interest in more HP and not just a throw away 2s.Brand loyalty blurs ones vision. Understand your own personal desires and choose a sled that matches best.
Skidoo makes a top notch sled, no doubt. But, where they can't deliver, it's time to move on. No biggie.
I hope Yamaha/Cat gain strength from this collaboration. And keep delivering the goods!!!
I would have never gone cat again, after the 2012 I had, but now its got YAM DNA and is engineered properly, not an afterthought. This is the real deal just about all speed junkies have been waiting for. And even though I am not a fan of the procross still, there is enough good under that hood and speed/power to sure make me want one. Some real world riding on my trails will be the make or break for me. We know its a rocket, no worry there.

There's been a rumor for years of a supercharged 1200. I believe that Doo does not want to make a more powerful sled than their E-tec because they've been claiming that 2-smokes are the best. How embarrassing would it be for them if their own 4-stroke was better than their own 2-smoke. Dan is right; if Doo doesn't go bigger then the "speed junkies" may switch...

A viable dootalk member stated something about the water jackets were too thin in some cases. Idk!
Also, doo would need to beef up the drivetrain to accommodate the new found power.
If doo puts it all together, they could build a very formidable sled. Only thing left would be.....price.
Could they achieve what riders are looking for, and price it competitively? That's the million dollar question.

Brand loyalty can definitely blur ones vision. Especially the hardcore 2 stroke folk. They are so sickly hung up on a four stroke weight (yet a Doo 1200 is not "heavy"
) . A local I know of has invested an OBSCENE amount of capital into a 1200 with every intent of beating up on a Winder or T-Cat. Like cracked the engine and everything in between. At that point I really wonder how much "weight" you save on a 1200 Doo.
My cousins who jumped ship over to XR1200s from an SRX and a Vmax constantly are carrying on about weight and the ski lift- claiming the weight of the Yamaha is what kills it and makes it handle poorly. Yet they never once attempted to set up their previous Yamahas.

I hear ya. There seems to be a rather large 1200 club. Most on dootalk have a new primary, header, reflash, etc. and can run at a pretty good clip.
Dry weight is 505lb.

i had a 1200, didn't want to mod it so much, tried header and clutch, but was not that impressed, it was a far, very far cry from my stock Apex, so i imagine a Sidewinder, only thing close is a turbo 1200 but that is heavier and more expensive then a sidewinder without the warranty...if you want 4S power, there is now only one choice...

This is exactly my thought. It's almost like the Sidewinder is a 5th sled company out there that everyone is gravitating too, but doesn't want loose brand loyalty. As an Apex owner, I can attest that most of us want to be brand loyal and wait for the next powerful all japanese Hypersled. Just like the Doo 850/800 Etec fans and 1200 fans and even the AC 1100T fans still consider the Thundercat a bastard like the Sidewinder.
But that power has lured us all, and brand loyalty is going out the window only now that the spring order guys are actually putting this thing on the snow and losing their minds that it delivered what the OEM promised. We all just feel we are leaving our brand behind no matter what it is. It's a funny situation.
With over 200hp, the Cat guys are easily getting over it, so are the yamaha guys and many of the Apex guys are getting over it now with 132mph runs on Youtube. Now the Doo and Poo crowd are joining in the hype. The other guys are right, Doo cannot and should not ignore this machine. And their best option to get there may be the 1200 with an Aerocharger or whatever the best blower this year is. Unless a new engine is in the works.
It's all good reading until we get our hands on one of these machines.

I dont think doo can compete in clutch category with big power....My machs always ran very hot belts with short life. The Yam clutches are the best for big HP. The SUK twin was so horrible I could not hold mine very long, so that in itself is one of the biggest reasons I would like the SW when going big HP. 1200 is strong and can handle ton of hP, but the heat would be big under the hood compared to the new SW reversed engine. SUK with front mounted turbo/exhaust mani was hot under hood and poor idea. Doo would likely be same, always fighting the heat. Yam invented the performance 4s and reversed the engine to keep ex heat out of engine bay, this remains the best design 4s config today IMO.A viable dootalk member stated something about the water jackets were too thin in some cases. I think IF doo does a turbo, it may very well be a lightweight 900ACE turbo around 160hp. This would be a BRP approach to things, which could be a fun trail sled with decent weight. If they dont lock down the ECU and it can be wicked to 200hp it could be interesting. But the power junkies wont buy it, when the SW is available to be wicked to 250 easily.
DOO has backed themselves into a bit of a corner with 2s mentality...dissing us 1200 guys for so many yrs, and now likely not giving us 4s guys any more love for another 8 seasons...lol
Its all about their cash cow 2s....while the 850 will be a killer trail monster, its still a 2s and wont have the full reliability and no oil to burn that us 4s guys want and expect.

Did Yamaha sell any other models other than the SW?

love the ride of the doo, it's a 2s, tilt wheel, heated seat and air ride, usb hub that puts the i tunes into the helmet for some megadeth etc. while rippin' it up, and it is fairly peppy, but quality and longevity made the winder a no brainer. not sure when I finally said enough, if it was the bad fuel pump when I got the sled new years eve 1000 miles from home and lost 30 days of the only snow we had, the NLA parts on my other 8 yr old doo, the blown air shock after 4 weeks, the top end recall, the heated seat that quit, or the coolant hose that rubbed the head bolt 100 miles from my truck in cochrane ON around moonbeam ON by myself at 2pm on a friday with the closest dealer over in hearst ON( great folks over there!!). or the fact that they are steering models and design to the crowd that does the mountain thing and want no parts of you after the sale. just glad I never got into wearing all the brand clothing. I'm thinking the loyal crowd I run with will see the light in pretty short order.
