FIRST RIDE ON THE APEX GT

Rode the Apex on Saturday. I was nice and limited to RPM to 6000 for the first 100 miles just like the book says. I noticed that the suspension bottoms out easy. I had the shock set on most firm. I measured the spring setting and it looks like it is set on the hardest. I weigh 230 without suit and about 250 with helmet and suit.. Is ther an optional Ohlin spring ?

Anyone else have this problem?

GT bottoming

Thanks..We rode Tug Hill NY last weekend and the trails were decent and my FAT AS* still bottommed it out. We measured the amount of sag at the rear bumper from full up compared to me sitting on it, and it drops 6 inches. Is this to much? If so can the dealer supply a new spring?

Correct APEX GT rear sag measurment

Anyone know the ballpark rear sag adjustment?

What about a part # for a stiffer spring?

the setting is the same as the lighter spring....

You measure the amount of sag in the spring, not at the rear bumper. Raise the rear of the sled up and measure the expended length of the spring, then sit on it in your riding gear, the spring should compress a certain millimeter amount. Not sure what that is for the GT, but on the attak it is between 40 and 45 mm.

APEX GT REAR SPRING

CALLED MY DEALER. HE TOLD ME THAT THE SPRING IS NOT AVAILABLE AND NO DATE IS INDICATED. MY SPRING IS CORRECTLY PRELOADED AND IT BOTTOMS OUT. MY FIRST REACTION WAS TO TIGHTEN UP THE SPRING, BUT I READ THAT THAT IS NOT AN OPTION DUE TO SPRING BIND. THE OLDER PRO ACTION SUSPENSION HAD A BUMPER HEIGHT SPECIFICATION. I SEE THE NEW METHOD IS ACTUAL SPRING COMPRESSION, SOUNDS MORE ACCURATE.. I AM GOING TO TIGHTEN THE REBOUND A FEW TURNS AND TRY IT. SOME POSTS HERE SAID THAT IT WORKED, BUT OTHERS INDICATE THAT YOU SHOULD RUN THE REBOUND AS LIGHT AS POSSIBLE TO ALLOW THE SUSPENSION TO REACT UPWARD TO ACHIEVE FULL STROKE. I CAN WAIT A BIT FOR THE SPRING SINCE I WILL NOT BE REALLY POUNDING IT UNTIL BREAK IN IS OVER ( 300 MILES).

JERSEYJOE, I weigh 230 also.I was lucky enough to get a heavier spring put in my gt when I picked it up. Set the sag to 45mm, no more bottoming, and still an excellent ride. I can run the electric shock on soft for almost everything except long rolling 3 footers.Then I just crank up the electric shock to half or three quarters.
