TORS came on 3 or more times when idleing and trying to take off. Clutch noise is anoying put on 100 miles or so good low end and mid I don't think it's as fast as my old vip on top but not broke in yet definitely more tippy than the viper pretty smooth ride though deep snow dosen't slow it down much all in all pretty happy with 4 stoker. My old sled was a viper with an M-10 tripple pipes 1.25 track clutch kit pretty hard to compare to that but I'm still happy with the Vector with all that being said. Yamaha needs to have a recall on the TORS and noisy clutch problems. I've rode nothing but yamaha for 25 years they need to address these issues I'm confident they will. Thanks for listening; any coments? Feel free Thanks

The TORS is a 1 minute fix by disconnecting the wires and plugging them into each other. Quick fix till trip is over.
If the Vector wasn’t so darn quiet up front, you wouldn’t hear the clutch. I don’t see it any different then a Viper clutch, but less noise in that area just amplifies other sounds that were always there in the past.

Just add more throttle cable slack and the tors will be fixed.

I have the clutch fix in my vector and it works good. Parts should be more widely available this week or next. Complain to your dealer about the clutch noise.

There is slack in the throttle cable just adjust it out and it will work fine. It takes 2 min. to adjust the cable and the torrs problem is fixed. 1700 miles on my vector and not one problem with the torrs just keep throttle cable adjusted right. Sam

More Slack

That sounds easy enough to adjust! I'm going to put a few more miles on before I complain to my dealer about clutch noise; only have 150 on right now. My vector back fires when I shut it off anyone else having this problem?? Any known cures? Also noticed sled turns well with factory carbides unbeleiveable!! I bought 8 inch woody's to replace factory carbides when they wear out. Anyone running 8 inch carbides? Are they too much. Thanks for your replies Tork and Vector ER

You can't disengage the TORS by pluging the wires into themselves,it doesn't work on the Vector ,the throttle overide is built into the TPS.Having said that, the TORS switch at the throttle block is the culprit,it doesn't get activated enough to de-activte the TORS,and it's intermitent. We've had luck in making the throttle move far enough so that the TORS gets activated.Good luck with that.

Yes you can override it look here ..

Well I have learned from my dealer here in sweden that Yes it's the TPS that is used for checking if trottle is at idle or not as the old mecanical switch did on the other sleds.
Then the ignitionbox uses the signal and if the signals from tps/trottle lever switch is in the right combination it will go over to tors mode in the ignitionbox and then stop the higher revs.

This problem is realy big worldwide and it might be a whole series of ignitionboxes that is faulty as my dealer told me and the tech men in japan is working on the problem, but it can take some time to solve.

So everybody that is having this tors problem and cant get it to stop with the normal check of wire slack and routing might get the ignitionboxes replaced to fix the tors problem later this season.

Until the fix is out you can only override it if you want to use your sled :o|

4trules is correct, you can overide the TORS by plugging wires together at the handle bars like the post shows. This has been the only way I have been able to get mine to stop. Done all the other adjustments with no luck. Will work with my dealer on it after the season is done. Yammie will get it fixed. Just bypass for now and ride.

I had the TORS problem at least 3 to 4 times per ride. My dealer called Yamaha and they told him to do all the following adjustments, the throttle cable, TPS, throttle lever, adjust the RPM at 1400 and sync the carbs. Since then I have had no problems and already put 2000 miles since these adjustments. Talk to you dealer and ask him to do it. It’s under the warranty anyway so he should do it no question asked. The clutch kit will be available soon. Like I said before in a previous post, it does not cure the problem completely but it is way much better. Same with this, ask your dealer to look at it. In the meantime enjoy your ride.

i havent had a problem with the tors. have had my sled backfire a couple of times afteri shut it off...nothin like my old sxr tho...sounded like u were gonna put the first piston on the moon. i have a hauck exhaust on and i cant hear the clutch rattle unless i open the hood, pull off the clutch cover and put my head really close to it at idle. i think its the really quiet exhaust. hopefully gonna get the clutch fix soon tho-dealer said he'd order the parts

The owner's manual explains how to bypass the TORS system in the event someone has a problem with TORS that won't go away with the usual fixes detailed elsewhere in this thread. It takes about 30 seconds and the hardest thing about it is putting the handlebar pad back on.

I had problems with the TORS. I'm a mechanic and electrical eng and I don't believe in bypassing safty features. I checked my cable and throttle free play but still had a problem so I checked the position sensor which is adjustable. You should first scribe a mark so you know the original position and have a reference point to adjust from. I turned the sensor CW which made the problem worse then turned it slightly CCW from my starting position and the problem was resolved. You should also make sure the idle is at specs. I believe this is a timing issue with the cdi, throttle switch and position sensor. The signals are being read at the cdi before the switch and sensor have time to equilibrate. a time delay in the cdi might be the answer.

TORS Problem after 511 miles.

My RS VectorER is my first sled. 511 miles TORS came on. Before this, riding noticed that after machine was warm idle stayed at 2000-2500. Did not adjust because it was 1500 when cold. Took the sled to the dealer and he adjusted the idle. Said that my throttle cable was not going back all the way so to quick snap the throttle to bring the idle down if it stayed up there. Since then have ridden three times and every ride the TORS has activated. I stop sit a minute then take off again. I have read the manual on over riding but have not done this yet. All the postings have been very informative. Over all the machine is beautiful. Rides great, handles great. Power up the rear for me. I rode my brothers 2000 Phazer and felt like I went from a Cadillac to a VW Beetle. LOL

Thanks Karen from the coast of Maine!!!

TORS problem

I adjusted my idle down problem went away!! Sled was idleing at 2400 when warm I made my adjustment when it was warm turned idle down to 1400 Hasn't went off since. Love my Vector!!! Rock on. Thanks for all the info everone this site rocks!!!!!

Cable slack

Just another data point:

I loosened up the throttle cable a bit and haven't had any problems since.

BTW: I have a Vector built on 5/04 and a Rage built 8/04.
The Rage is a MUCH stiffer throttle.
I wonder if they phased in a change into the assembly line where
they use a stiffer throttle spring(s) or wind the spring one more
revolution.

Thoughts?
